James "Homer" Dale Harmon

March 16, 1954 — June 10, 2022

Wiggins

James Dale Harmon, 68 of Wiggins, joined his wife and loved ones in glory Friday, June 10, 2022. He was born on March 16, 1954 in New Haven, CT, one of six children to Paul Eugene and Geraldine Marie (Richards) Harmon. James grew up in Westbrook and came to be known by most as Jim. Those who knew him best though, referred to him as "Homer". In his younger years, Homer was, to say the least, sort of "heck on wheels". He was "off the chain" if you will, and enjoyed music and tinkering on cars. He attended Old Lyme school and after his educational pursuits, went to work as a mechanic for Pratt & Whitney. Homer worked there for several years before an accident retired him medically. In 1995, he moved to South Mississippi to be closer to his brother. Together they worked on cars, went on mission trips and did disaster recover work. Homer also worked some with God Cares Ministries, doing all he could to help those in need. He loved his music and playing his guitar, but his passion in life was his grandchildren. Homer is remembered as a complicated person at times. While he certainly had his share of struggles in life, he was a loving, Godly man and trusted friend, always eager to help to the extent he could. In his spare time, Homer enjoyed old movies and baking apple pies that were so delicious. You see, he had his grandmother's recipe and could make a seriously good apple pie, which actually paired quite well with his love of ice cream. Homer was a character who loved to laugh and play games with his family and friends. That hearty laugh and quirky sense of humor will be sadly missed by all whose life he touched. Homer was preceded by his father Paul Harmon, his loving wife Dyann, and two if his brothers, Tom and Merle Harmon. Left to cherish his memories are: his children, daughters Teala (Eric) Jones of Petal, Jaime Harrison of Columbia, SC, and Nadine Harmon of New Haven, CT, with one son, Jude Harmon of San Francisco, CA; his mother Geraldine "Beeka" Norman, his sister Diane Gerhart and brother Ken Harmon, all of CT,  brother John (Elaine) Harmon of Perkinston, MS, along with five step siblings and two half siblings. Homer leaves a legacy of nine grandchilren: Isaiah, Chloe, and Elijah Jones, Amari and Liana Joseph, Kiah, Tariq, and Elias Harrison, and Josephine Hollingsworth, along with numerous extended family and friends. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, June 17th, in the sanctuary of Tuxechena Baptist Church in Perkinston, where Homer was a member. Visitation begins at 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00, with his brother Rev. John Harmon and Pastor Gene Daniels officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Harmon family during this difficult time, and asks you to remember them in your prayers in the days to come.
