Obituary

James Michael Barr, 77, went to be with the Lord on August 5, 2026, in Purvis, Mississippi. He was born on June 20, 1949, in Atlanta, Georgia, to William Howard and Maude Rita Smith Barr.

James was a hardworking and highly skilled man who spent much of his life as an owner-operator, taking great pride in everything he did. Earlier in life, he worked on reactor-powered ships in New Orleans, where his intelligence and mechanical ability set him apart as someone who could fix and troubleshoot just about anything. His talents carried into many areas of his life—from managing a florist shop in Texas to becoming the proud owner-operator of his own florist shop, Flowers ETC., in Metairie, Louisiana. He was also a gifted craftsman, creating beautiful stained glass pieces, including pictures, vases, tabletops, and restorations for churches. He was a creative and detailed man, known for doing things the right way.

A laid-back and easygoing man, James enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He had a special love for hummingbirds and found joy in watching them, as well as working with glass art. He was adventurous at heart and loved traveling, especially taking road trips with his beloved late wife, Dianna, whom he loved dearly. James was also active in several social clubs, always looking for ways to give back to his community.

Those who knew James will remember him as a strong, “old school” kind of man—tough, dependable, and incredibly smart, yet kind-hearted and deeply devoted to his family. He was a family man through and through, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and creativity that will live on in all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dianna Barr; his parents, William and Maude Barr; his brothers, Richard Barr, William Barr; and his daughter, Gabrielle Yawn.

James is survived by his sons, Robert Michael Barr and James Myles Barr; his brothers, John Barr, Howard Barr, Pat Barr, and Pete Barr; his granddaughter, Jana Smith of Mississippi; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many other beloved family members and friends.

Friends and family will be received at a time and place to be announced. A funeral service will follow with burial thereafter.

Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Barr family during this difficult time and asks that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers in the days ahead.
