Jacob Charles Hurt, 19 and formerly of Purvis, passed away in a tragic accident in Wayne County, NE Thursday evening. Jacob was born February 22, 2002 in Hattiesburg, the son of James Hurt and Sarah (Loy) Alexander. Growing up in Purvis, Jacob came to enjoy video games and computers and didn't care much for sports. He was part of what became a rather large family after his parents were remarried, with eight siblings in all. He didn't like to run the roads or anything, rather he enjoyed being at home gaming or on the computer more than anything. Jacob graduated from Purvis High School with the Class of 2021 and had recently moved to Carroll, Nebraska with his family. A Christian by faith, Jacob attended Caney Baptist Church where he made a profession of faith about three years ago. He was excited about the move and was looking forward to getting his first real job. Jacob was a fun-loving young man that was just a great kid growing up. He loved his family and spending time with them, including his siblings, nieces and nephews, and so enjoyed being a brother and an uncle. It goes without saying that Jacob leaves this life far too soon. He will definitely be sadly missed and forever loved by his family and everyone who knew him. He was preceded by his grandparents, Ricky and Virginia Hartfield. He leaves to cherish his memories: his mother, Sarah (Adam) Alexander of Carroll, NE, and his father, James (Elizabeth) Hurt of Purvis; his siblings: James Hurt of Purvis, John Hurt of Lumberton, Jerri (Jordan) Daugherty and Jefferson Hurt, both of Purvis, Eli and Kadin Alexander of Carroll, NE, with Christopher Montgomery and Kristan Holifield, also of Purvis; and his maternal grandmother, Kathy Saujon of Hattiesburg, along with numerous extended family, many friends, both around Purvis and in the online gaming community. Funeral services are set for Thursday, June 24th at Caney Baptist Church where Jacob was a member. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 1:00 PM. Afterward, Jacob will be laid to rest in the church cemetery. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the family in such a trying time, asking everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
