J D Hartifield

J D Hartfield, 72, passed away at his home in Lumberton January 4, 2021. He was born May 30, 1948 in Poplarville to Willie G.W. and Hazel Hartfield. He is preceded in death by his parents; 9 siblings and his son, J D Hartfield, Jr. J D leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Frances “Pat” Hartfield; bonus children and in laws, Gordon and Shannon Ladner, Maurice and Toni Ladner, Jessica and Wayne Hemba, Jason and Pamela Ladner and Julian and Nikki Ladner; adopted by his heart, children, LeaAnn and Matt Ulmer, Jody Clinton and Beth Williams; a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and friends from all walks of life. J D will be remembered as a humble easygoing man. He may have been a man of a few words but when he spoke, people knew to listen. J D was a man of unwavering faith. He was the true definition of a Christian, continuously helping someone along the way, always willing to lend someone a hand. He believed in family values and tried to instill them in those around him.  J D enjoyed dominos, card games and most anything outdoors. He leaves an empty spot in those who had the honor to know him, but the family takes comfort in knowing that they will see him again. Visitation will be Thursday, January 7 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Lumberton at 10 am with funeral services at noon. Interment will follow at Lee Ladner Cemetery next to the church. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made to Hickory Grove Baptist Church.
