Iva Breland Rigby, 79, of Wiggins passed peacefully October 13 surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 11, 1940 to Sarden and Iduma Breland. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Elder Talmage, John and Donald Breland; sister, Mary Katherine Fairly and son in law, Ray Lee. Iva leaves behind to cherish her memory her devoted husband of 46 years, Paul Rigby; daughter, Deborah Lee and daughter and son in law, Stephanie Wheatcroft and Ben Bowman; 8 grandchildren; along with great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She is followed by four generations of family, but Iva had a part in raising more children than you can count. She loved each one of them dearly and had a special place in her heart for everyone. She grew up in Stone Co. and followed in her mother’s footsteps. She cared deeply for the wellbeing of those around her and dedicated her life to better other people’s lives. Iva was an advocate for those without a voice. And boy, oh boy could Iva ever talk. Right, wrong or indifferent, you always knew where you stood with her. The woman never stopped. Until her dying day, Iva was still giving instructions. She was a member of several civic clubs, highly active in church and even ran for Senator. Iva wore many hats throughout her life including being a chaplain, Ombudsman, Red Cross volunteer, employee of DHS and MS State hospital. She graduated from Jackson State University with a bachelor’s degree in Social Services and used her talents to help the elderly, children and disabled. She fought for shelters to be built for unwed mothers, foster children and people with addictions. Iva was a remarkable wife, mother, grandmother and overall friend. We are better people for having had Iva in our lives. Rest easy, our sweet friend, until we meet again.. A private interment will be at Macdonia Church Cemetery. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to be entrusted with the care of our dear friend and asks that you keep her family in your prayers over the coming days.
