Hessie Lorraine Sullivan Fulton, age 95, passed away peacefully surrounded by children and grandchildren on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Born on December 12, 1921, in Mize (Smith County), Mississippi, she was a long-time resident of Saucier, MS, and a member of McHenry First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter Anderson Sullivan and Lula Jane Sullivan; her husband of 63 years, Marvin George Fulton; and her son Kevin George Fulton, as well as four brothers, Daniel Jackson Sullivan, Thomas Frank Sullivan, Maxie Charles Sullivan, and Braxton E. (Louise Ainsworth) Sullivan; and four sisters, Alma Vondel Sullivan, Lela Jewell Sullivan (Charles) Little, Euva Estelle Sullivan (James C.) Moore, and Vivian O'Nell Sullivan (William) Page.
She is survived by one daughter, Karen Fulton (W.A., Jr. "Jimmy") McQueen of Wiggins and one son, Paul Barry Fulton of Saucier; five grandchildren: Dale (Joani Danzey) McQueen and Michelle McQueen (Troy) Johnson of Wiggins; Natasha Fulton (Jason) Cummings of Biloxi; Rachel Anne Fulton of Saucier; and Erica Camille Fulton of Saucier; thirteen great-grandchildren, Jason Chance, Alyssa Brooke, and Easton Gaines McQueen, Megan Nicole and Macy Michelle Rodrick, Joel Bentley and Madelyn Grace Morgan, Braleigh LeAnn Fulton, Zachary Ryland Bond, Mark Rylan Burch, Jayce Anthony Cummings, Natalie Noelle Cummings, Austin Anthony Cummings, and Ethan and Emily Johnson; and two sisters-in-law, Louise Ainsworth (Braxton E.) Sullivan of Florence, and Sarah Fulton (Sonny) Adams of Mobile, Alabama.
While her husband served and retired from the United States Air Force, Mrs. Fulton served and retired with 33 years in Civil Service, the great majority of that time at Keesler Air Force Base. The couple and their three children spent their early years in Ocean Springs, then moved to Saucier, where they built a home and enjoyed many years on their beautiful farm. She maintained a beautiful yard and garden while her husband tried to keep the livestock at bay. Ever the diligent wife and mother, she also worked in the dining hall after her day job for a few years (and often watered her plants after work by moonlight or flashlight), and sold her vegetables on the weekends from her little Nissan truck. In her 80s (still gardening), she attended Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and was a President's List (4.0 GPA) scholar. She completed almost all courses toward degrees in both Horticulture and Auto Parts and Accessories Sales and was a member of the Horticulture Club. The couple set an example of hard work and clean living for their family, and they will be greatly missed.
Services will be held Sunday, December 10, at Trinity Funeral Services, 319 US Hwy. 49, McHenry, MS 39561, as follows: family visitation 1-1:30 pm, public visitation 1:30-3:00 pm, and service at 3:00 pm. Rev. David J. Perry will preside and Mrs. Faye Perry will provide music on the piano. Interment will be at Biloxi National Cemetery at 12:30 pm on Thursday, December 14, 2017. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the medical staff at both Stone County Hospital and Forrest General Hospital for their caring service. Since floral remembrances are limited and removed within a few days at the national cemetery, the family would welcome contributions to the Marvin G. and Hessie S. Fulton Memorial Scholarship at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Alumni/Foundation, P.O. Box 99, Perkinston, MS 39573. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Fulton family, and asks that you keep them in your prayers during this difficult time.
