Henry Wendell Wilson, 67 of State Line, MS, passed away January 4th, 2024 at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg. He was born July 25th, 1956 in Gulfport, one of six children to Henry Harmon and Alma Jeanette (Jamison) Wilson. Wendell grew up in the Lyman area of South MS and was all about anything outdoors. Hunting, fishing, camping, kayaking, or whatever else he could come up with. He wasn't into sports, choosing to focus his efforts on game and fish instead. Wendell attended Harrison county schools before joining the workforce in his teenage years. He worked at the glass plant until it closed, then turned to the construction field. As a welder, Wendell managed to stay pretty busy. He eventually went to work for the Harrison County Sand Beach Dept. where he stayed for many years until his retirement. He is remembered as a "determined and unwavering" type of guy. Wendell loved his family, no matter how it appeared from time to time. He would do just about anything to be there for family members, especially his kids and grandchildren. He had a friendly spirit about him, always able to talk to anyone. He continued his love of the outdoors, horses, and native American artwork. Wendell was also one to always pay a lady a compliment, but that was his Southern heritage. Now he had his ways about him, but those who knew and loved him understood that about him. He will be forever missed by all whose life he touched. Wendell was preceded by his father, Harmon Wilson, and his brothers Steve and Richard Wilson, along with a sister-in-law Mary Wilson, and a nephew Montana Wilson. Left to cherish his memories are: his two daughters, Wendy (Jason) LeValley of Copperas Cove, TX, and Ashley (Bert) Collier of Gulfport; his loving mother Alma Wilson of Lyman, with his sisters Rhonda (Walt) Campbell of Lizana, and Candy (Mike) Sims of Pass Christian, with his brother Mike (Sandy) Wilson, also of Lyman. Wendell leaves a legacy of six grandchildren, including four grands: Jason LeValley, Mya (Zach) Vigil, Sarah Collier, and Bert Collier, III, plus two great-grands: Autumn and Astrid Vigil, along with numerous extended family and friends. Funeral services are set for Thursday, January 11th, 2024 at Trinity Funeral Services in McHenry. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM, with a chapel service at 3:00 PM. Afterward, his final wishes to be cremated will be honored by his family.
