Henry Lamar Nichols, a loving and thoughtful man, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2023, in Naples, Florida, at the age of 60. Born on July 24, 1962, in Gulfport, Mississippi, Henry was a friendly and hardworking individual who touched the lives of many. He was preceded by his parents, Mattie and Lamar Nichols, and his son, Justin Chasteen. Left to cherish the many fond memories are: his loving wife, Rebecca Nichols; his brother, Loran (Carol) Nichols of Pass Christian, and his sister Jeannie (Jeff) Horgan of Gulfport. Henry was a proud father to many blended children, including: Kessiah Stefano of Indiana, Jessica (Matt) Thomas of Waveland, Brittney (Eric) Gutierrez of California, Sam Wilcox of Indiana, Brandon Powell of Gulfport and Brad (Brandy) Powell, both of Gulfport, and Brandon Billingsley and Brooke Billingsley, both of Saucier. He was also a doting grandfather to 17 grandchildren: Braiden Stefano, Trey Edwards, Landon, Branton, & Cecelia Thomas, Elam and Ezra Gutierrez, Shyanne Wilcox, Wesley Foglia , Ashlee Powell, & Conner Dillon, Jena-Rae & Serenity Chasteen, Isabella, Bransyn & Jazalynn Powell, Andi-Kate Scott, with one great-grandchild, Ariana Stefano, all of whom will miss their Poppy dearly.
Henry completed high school and went on to attend cosmetology school. He worked in construction doing drywall for over 48 years, demonstrating his dedication and skill in his craft, which he passed down to his children. In his spare time, Henry enjoyed working, going to the casino, fishing, and most importantly, spending time with his loved ones. His friendly and thoughtful nature made him a beloved figure in his community and among his friends and family. Throughout his life, Henry embodied the words of Maya Angelou: "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." His loving and caring spirit will be remembered by all who knew him. As we celebrate Henry's life and cherish the memories we shared with him, we are reminded of the importance of love, friendship, and family. His legacy will live on through the lives of his loved ones and the countless people he touched with his kindness and generosity. Henry Lamar Nichols will be deeply missed, but his memory will continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to know him.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Trinity Funeral Services in McHenry. Everyone is invited to come reminisce with the family and share fond memories beginning at 4:00 PM, with a chapel service to begin at 5:30. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Nichols family in their time of need, and asks everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers through this trying time.
