Mr. Harlan Ross May

November 1, 1937 — October 30, 2018

Mr. Harlan Ross May, 80 of Perkinston, passed away Tuesday, October 30th in Gulfport. Ross was born November 1, 1937 in Gulfport, the son of Garlon R. & Margaret Ernestine (Sevel) May. He was a bright, patriotic young man who enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1954 at the age of 17. Ross planned to make a career there, but was injured in action while deployed in the Dominican Republic. SGT May was honorably discharged in 1966, and returned to Gulfport where he became a police officer and Gulfport city employee before deciding to return to school to further his education. Ross received a Bachelors of Education from the University of Southern MS, and worked in the Gulfport school system teaching English until his ultimate retirement. Ross loved bluegrass music, singing, and played several instruments, including banjo, guitar, and fiddle, in addition to speaking fluent Persian. He is remembered as a truly wonderful person, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded by his parents, Garlon & Margaret May; a sister, Bonnie Titus; and his first wife, Toyoko "Sue" May. Left to cherish his memories are: his loving wife of 50 years, Martha Ann May; sons Geoffrey (Stephanie) May, Scott May, and Jonathan (Jamie) May; four grandchildren: Devin Michael, Hannah Catherine, Zachary Ryan, and Lorena Julianne; his brother, Kenny May, and a sister, Helen Roberson, as well as numerous extended family, friends, former students, and more. A memorial service has been set for Friday morning, November 2, 2018 at Perkinston Baptist Church. Visitation begins at 9:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 10:00 AM. He will be laid to rest with military honors at Biloxi National Cemetery. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the May family in their time of need, and asks that you keep Ms. Martha and the entire family in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
