Glen Allen Yawn

March 16, 1949 — December 12, 2023

Purvis

Glen Allen Yawn, 74, passed away December 12, 2023 at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, after a lengthy illness. He was born March 16, 1949 at the family home in Lamar Co, the oldest of four children to Leon and Mary Lillian (Johnson) Yawn. Glen grew up in the Oak Grove area where he was a typical South Mississippi boy that loved to hunt and fish. He was never interested in sports, other than fishing poles and hunting guns. Glen attended Oak Grove schools before getting himself a job at Marshall Durbin in the ice house. He had a couple other jobs as well, but was drafted into the US Army in 1968. Glen served two years, spending over half his time in Europe during the Vietnam era. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home and married Branda on April 18th, 1970. They made their home in Lamar county. Glen eventually went to work for Dairy Fresh as a maintenance electrician, and eventually worked his way up to supervising the entire department. He loved his job there, spending over 40 years with the company, retiring Dec. 31, 2019. He is remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather that set an example for all with his solid work ethic. If he wasn't on the job, he would spend hours on the phone advising his guys on what to do in any situation they needed help with, even after he retired. When he wasn't working, Glen still enjoyed the outdoors as much as possible. He also loved his old western movies and arguing with his grandbabies. Of course he had to have his coffee and his Coke at all times as well. He had his ways, could be a bit stubborn at times, but overall was a wonderful husband and provider for his family. His memories will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Glen was preceded by his parents Leon Yawn and Mary Madden, and his brother Jeff Yawn. Left to cherish his memories are: his loving wife of over fifty-three years, Brenda Ann; their children, Michelle Jones of Richton, Michael Yawn of Oak Grove, and Lisa Senneca of Waynesboro; his sisters, Deloris Madden, Geneva Young, Christine Skeen, Bobbie Ryals, and Ruby (Eugene) Chisolm; a sister-in-law Sandra Stuart, and a brother-in-law Steve Reid. Glen leaves a legacy of ten grandchildren: Steven Yawn, Cody and Courtney Yawn, Andy Yawn, Eric (Ashley) and Zack Jones, Madeline Thaggard, Glyn, Timothy, and Leah McCraw, with four great-grands: Gage, Charliegh, TayTay, and Emma, along with numerous extended family, friends and co-workers through the years. Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 15th at Central Landmark Missionary Baptist Church where Glen was a member most of his life. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at noon, with Pastor Harlan Davis officiating. Afterward, Glen will be laid to rest in the Chambliss Cemetery. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Yawn family in their time of need and asks that you remember them in your thoughts and prayers through the days ahead.
