Gulfport

Gertrude Biggs, 68, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2023, in Covington, LA. Born on December 11, 1954 in Gulfport, MS. Raised in the Orange Grove Community of Gulfport, Gertrude spent her childhood playing in the woods with her siblings, embracing the simple joys of life and the close-knit bond of family. She was the heart of her family, a sister among five siblings, and the cherished daughter of James Wesley and Goldie Mae (Dobson) Scarbrough. Gertrude's life was marked by the love she had for her family, a love that was as deep as the roots of the trees she played amongst as a child. Her son fondly recalls her culinary adventures, particularly her unmatched skill in preparing "microwavable meals," with canned tamales reigning as her favorite dish. Her love for her children was boundless, but her adoration for her baby boy, Michael, was especially profound. Gertrude's grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to her. They were her motivation and joy, and she lived to create moments that they would treasure forever. She was the epitome of a kind-hearted and caring soul; being the person everyone knew they could turn to for support, whether it was for a helping hand, a listening ear, or one of her comforting hugs that seemed to make the world a better place. Her selfless nature was a gift, and her presence was a source of comfort and strength to many. Gertrude's friends were numerous, for she had a way of making lasting connections with those she met. Her love for life was infectious, and she lived each day with a full heart. She is preceded by her husband, Jack Biggs; parents, James and Goldie (Dobson) Scarbrough; three brothers, John, Gary, and Charles Scarbrough; and one sister, Sharon Robinson. Left to cherish all her memories are her children, Amanda (Joshua) Smith and Michael Biggs; sister, Hazel Edge; grandchildren, Bloss Smith, Ariel and Cody McDaniel; along with two great grandbabies, Amelia Codington and Blakelyn Howell. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Biggs family in their time of need and asks that you remember them in your thoughts and prayers through the days ahead.
