Gulfport

Gerald Edward Shea, a spirited soul known for his love of horses and dedication to service, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2024, in Gulfport, MS. Born on December 9, 1933, in Belfast Township, MN, Gerald's journey through life was marked by an unwavering commitment to his family, his country, and his community. Gerald's life was one of honor and duty, serving as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force until his retirement. Following his military career, he continued to serve his community through his work with 3B Bathtub Refinishing and as a member of the Gulfport Police Mounted Horse Patrol. His skilled hands also found their calling as a farrier, caring for the horses he so dearly loved. Family was the cornerstone of Gerald's life. He was preceded by his beloved wife, Nancy, as well as his parents, Dennis and Maurisse Shea, his son Brian, brother Donald, and sisters Marilyn and Monica. Gerald's legacy lives on through his surviving sister, Marion, his sons Bradley and Bruce (Claire), and his adored grandchildren: Tabathia, April, Christie, Cotey, Lacey, Michael, Michele, Matthew, Robert, and great-grandchildren Taylor, Tanner, Kali, Gage, Callie, Gatlin, Ryder, Chayton, Zaylan, Daxon, Layklan, Brooke, Connor, Bostyn, Austin, Aiden, Madi, Kenzie, Calvin, Willie, Paisley, Kinlee, Lex, Robert Jr., Natalie, and great-great-grandchildren Serena, Amelia, Brenley, and Paisley. An ardent lover of the outdoors, Gerald's passion for horses shone through in his involvement in barrel racing. His connection with these majestic creatures was palpable, and his skills as a horseman were admired by all who knew him. His last ride July10, 2024 on his beloved horse “Moon” was a testament to the joy and freedom he found in the company of his equine friends. Gerald was also deeply involved in shaping the lives of young individuals as a Boy Scouts Master, where he imparted values of leadership, responsibility, and the importance of community service. His influence has left an indelible mark on the countless lives he touched. Known for his quick wit and warmth, Gerald's favorite saying, "Okay, dear," would always be said with a twinkle in his eye, bringing a smile to those around him. He found great joy in the simple pleasures of life, like his daily visits from his great-great-granddaughter Brenley, who brought him immense happiness and laughter. As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Gerald embodied this sentiment, striving to make a positive impact on the world and those around him. His life was a testament to the power of kindness, hard work, and the unbreakable bonds of family. Gerald's journey through life was not just about the paths he trod but also about the countless hearts he touched along the way. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by the stories passed down through the generations of his family, who will continue to honor his legacy by living out the values he taught them. A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Gerald Edward Shea will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his spirit will continue to galvanize and inspire, just as the sound of hooves on the open trail echoes long after the ride has ended. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Shea family and asks that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this time.
