George Waldo Holland

July 9, 1953 — January 31, 2022

Saucier

George Waldo Holland, 68 of Saucier, passed away January 31st at Singing River Hospital in Gulfport. He was born July 9, 1953 in Gulfport, MS, the second of seven children in all, the first five to Winford George and Louise (Allen) Holland, and the remaining two with her second husband, Jimmy Sample. George grew up in Long Beach where he was the outdoors type, enjoying football and baseball, hunting, fishing, and all the things a South MS boy does. To say he was rambunctious is somewhat of an understatement, as George was full of energy and enthusiasm. He often quipped about being a "lion tamer", among other things in his younger years, but we will leave those details to his family. When he discovered racing, he had found his calling. George started motor cross racing as a teenager, later graduating into dirt track cars. His dad owned Sample Service Station in Long Beach, where George learned all about auto mechanics as he worked there from around age 15. He attended Long Beach schools and continued at Sample's for a while before moving to Southern Tire in Gulfport. George was co-owner of Albert & George's Automotive for several years, and basically spent his entire career as a mechanic in one way or another. He's worked in local shops, for himself, for the State, and for a couple of the local auto dealerships over the years. George is remembered as a great guy in every aspect. A loving brother that was very close to his siblings, George had a vivid sense of humor with the ability to get a laugh in most every situation. He married his high-school sweetheart Cindie, and they spent over forty-eight fun-filled years together. A devoted family man with a huge heart, George was the type that never met a stranger. He was a lot of things, most of which were self-proclaimed, including (but surely not limited to) a "three time, world champion bull-shi**er", and a 'professional ditch fisherman', often taking his sons and grandkids along. In reality, he was a truly selfless man who would help anyone. George said a lot of things in his life that may or may not have been factually accurate, but one thing he meant with true conviction was that his proudest accomplishment in life was his two sons. He absolutely lived his life his way and has crossed the finish line. George will be forever loved and missed by all whose life he touched. He was preceded by his father, Winford Holland, his mother, Louise Sample, and one brother, Jeffrey "Speck" Holland. Left to cherish his memories and laugh on are: his loving sweetheart and wife, Cindie; those two boys he was so proud of, Wayne (Kim) Holland and Chavus (Adrian) Holland, all of Saucier; his sisters Ada (Eddie) Ladner of Pass Christian and Regina (David) Yarborough of Waveland, with brothers Marty (Mag) Holland and Mike Holland, and Albert (Brenda) Sample, all of LB; and his step-father, Jimmy Sample of Long Beach. George leaves a legacy of six grandchildren: Gage (Summer) Holland, Conner Holland, Katelyn Fortenberry, Chase Holland, Avery Holland, and Ruby Holland, with two great-grandchildren, Hazel and Dudley Holland, along with numerous extended family and friends all over the Gulf Coast and beyond. His final wishes were to be cremated, which his family is honoring. A Celebration of George's Life will be held Friday evening, February 4th at Trinity Funeral Services in McHenry. A chapel service will begin at 6:00 PM with Bro. Paul Crowley officiating, followed by a time of visitation, fellowship, and some certain laughter as friends and family reminisce. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Holland family in their time of need and asks everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
