Gary Lee (Papa G) Berndt

Gary Lee Berndt, age 68 passed away on January 11, 2023 in Gulfport, Mississippi. He was born in Indiana to Thomas Berndt Sr. and Martha Helen Gates Berndt on October 22, 1954. Gary was born in Indiana but moved to attended Eastern Kentucky University. After college he played music around the country before becoming an EMT and then a Fire Fighter. Gary spent most of his life doing what he was passionate about, helping others and saving lives. Gary was also a good role model to some of the kids in his neighborhood that he helped raise. He had a big heart with great sense of compassion for anyone that crossed his path. He was a loving husband, wonderful father, and friend to many that will be missed dearly. Gary is preceded by his parents, Thomas Berndt Sr., and Martha Berndt. He is also preceded by his brother, Max Whitehead. Left to cherish his memories is his loving wife, Kimberly Bruntz-Berndt; daughters, Mandy spiers and Jennifer (Jason) Tibbetts; son, James (Virginia) Spiers; sister, MaryAnn Sneed; brothers, Tom (Mary Lou) Bernett and David Berndt; grandchildren, Madison, Kaeden, Aunika, Shelby, Blakley, Keegan, and Caleb. Also left to cherish his memories are numerous nieces and nephews.
