May 3, 1945 — September 3, 2022

Poplarville, MS

Gary Leonard Odom, 77 and long-time resident of Poplarville, passed away at his home September 3rd. He was born May 3rd, 1945 in Poplarville, the son and one of seven children to Roland C. and Verdee (Bazor) Odom. Gary grew up in rural Pearl River County following World War II and became accustomed to the country life. He joined the Army National Guard and spent his career working as a pipefitter and raising beef cattle. After 40 years in construction, Gary “retired” and became a full-time cattle farmer. He is remembered as a loving family man who was a proud veteran of the Mississippi Army National Guard. Now Gary enjoyed raising his cattle and all the things associated with that, but he loved spending time with his family, especially those grand and great-grandkids. That was his passion in life over the past several years and he enjoyed every minute of it. One thing that always stood out with Gary was his somewhat large hands, which served him well in life. He always held each of his kids and grandkids in just one of his hands when they were born. For that and so very much more, Gary will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by a family who cherished and loved him deeply. He was preceded by his parents, one sister, and two brothers. Left to cherish his memories are: his loving wife of 54 years, Jewel Odom; a very special niece, Gwen Tate; his three children: Wayne (Dawn) Odom, Patricia (Jeremy) Saucier, and Clint (Regina) Odom; one sister and two brothers. Gary leaves a legacy of seven grandchildren: Coty (Rachel) Odom, Kristen (Justin) Stewart, Shyann (Aaron) Spillman, Blake Saucier, Paige Saucier, Canton Odom, and Saylor Odom, with two great-grandchildren: Kasyn Matthews and Lainey Stewart, along with numerous extended family, friends, neighbors, and no telling how many cattle raised through the years. His final wishes were to be cremated, which his family is honoring and will hold a celebration of his life at a later date. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Odom family in their time of need, and asks everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
