Garland Emmitt Hester

Garland Emmitt Hester, 66, of Perkinston passed away Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Memorial Hospital Gulfport, surrounded by his loved ones. Garland is preceded by his parents Cleveland Carl and Eva (Shaw) Hester. Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 48 years, Molinda Faye Jones; his only son and favorite daughter-in-law, Shane and Tori Hester; his grandson, Ethan Hester; and his best friend, Oreo. Garland was born November 12, 1954 in Wiggins the only child to Cleveland and Eva Hester. Garland grew up in Stone County where he played baseball, graduating from Stone High School. He worked on a dairy farm for a little bit until he went to work at DuPont, where he stayed for 20+ years. After retiring, he grew a passion for woodworking, but it never beat spending time with his grandson, and squirrel hunting with Oreo. Garland loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, sometimes even golfing. You might have seen him shooting a bow a time or two. Garland was a Christian with a strong faith and loved his church. He became a member of Wolf Creek Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He taught a children’s Sunday School class, and a Men’s Bible study class. Garland will be always missed and remembered as always lending a helping hand and being someone you could count on. A visitation will be held Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Silver Run Baptist Church from 10 AM to 12 PM. A funeral service will be at 12 PM with internment will to follow at Hester Cemetery.
