Ernest James Theriot, 70, of Perkinston, MS, entered his heavenly rest, Friday, April 18, 2025, in the comfort of his home, just as he wished. Ernie or "Big E", as he was loving known his whole life, was born, one of four, on September 30, 1954, in Franklin, LA to his parents, Ernest and Elsie (Gaubert) Theriot. At just over a year old, Ernie's dad put him on his first horse and from that day forward he cried if you took him off. Cowboying was in his blood, winning several calf roping championships and a life spent as an instructor, horse trainer, and ferrier. Outside of the arena, Ernie was a dad, son, brother, and father figure to many he encountered throughout his life as a cowboy. Ernie was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, despite the sorrow life brought him, losing his wife, his son, and his freedom in 2013, Ernie's faith never wavered. Ernie loved crawfish and the Dallas Cowboys. Although he was raised on Saints football, once the paper bags came out, it was a done deal, Cowboys fan for life. Despite how mad they made him or the games he would swear he could complete a pass better than Dak from his chair, he looked forward to watching them play. Ernie always knew he would walk again, and now he's rejoicing as he walks on the streets of gold with many jewels in his crown from the lives he brought to believe in Jesus. Ernie will be missed by all those he leaves behind who loved and cared for him, as he always said "God is good all the time, and all the time, GOD IS GOOD"! He is preceded in death by his wife of twenty-one years, Melinda; one son, Evan James Theriot; and his father, Ernest Theriot. Left to cherish his memory, one daughter, Staci (Joesph) Davenport; his twin boys, Jaden and Ryan Theriot; two grand-daughters, Lana and Holly Jo Davenport; his mother, Elsie Theriot; three brothers, Mark (Recinda) Theriot, Hebert (Renee) Theriot, and Clint (Kristine) Allemand; one sister, Lisa (Charles) Curry; four nephews, Chance Theriot, Clay Curry, Marcus Theriot, and Mason Theriot; and four nieces, Chelsea Theriot, Morgan Curry, MeLayna Theriot, Whitley Allemand, and Rachel Allemand Bryant. Big E leaves a legacy of numerous extended friends and family, as well as horses he has trained over the years. The family would like to extend a great amount of thanks to his caregiver of four years, Ms. Anita Smith. Without Ms. Anita, he could not have carried out his final wishes to enter into his eternal resting place from his own home. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Theriot family during this time and would ask that you remember them in your thoughts and prayers over the difficult days ahead. Services for Ernie will be held at a later time provided by his family.
