Emmett Archie Smith, 75, passed away Sunday, February 13th in his home surrounded by family.
He was born on April 05, 1946 in Gulfport, the son of Emmett Woodrow and Helen (Dubuisson) Smith. He grew up in the old Pineville community of Pass Christian, where he loved to fish. His father was a volunteer firefighter and as soon as he was old enough, Archie joined as well, serving for many years. He attended Harrison Central schools and went to work in the construction field. He later worked for Diamondhead as an equipment operator for 11 years before going into the lawn care business for himself. He operated “The Cutting Edge” for several years, giving that up to take care of his mother-in-law. A God-sent husband to Sue, Archie was a man of his word. He had a kind, gentle heart and loved his family dearly. His favorite places to go were Lowe’s and Home Depot, where he could literally spend hours just looking, and dreaming of the things he could do. A trip to the beach with McDonalds french fries, or a bag of pretzels for the seagulls was something he enjoyed doing, and often took his grandkids. Archie was had many talents and could do anything he set his mind to. Whatever it was, he was very OCD about it. From woodworking to laying tile, or even operating heavy equipment, Archie was meticulous about it. "If you’re gonna do something, do it right." was his motto, and he stuck to that. He also enjoyed dancing, and taught his daughters, twirling around the living room many times. A loving husband and father who was thoughtful, resourceful, and so much more, he will be sadly missed by all whose life he touched. Archie was preceded by his parents, Emmett and Helen Smith, his brother Gerald Smith, and his son, Steven Warden. Left to cherish his memories are: his loving wife of over 40 years, Sue Smith; their daughters, Sabrina (Pete) Landry, Stacey (Kenneth) West, and Jessica (Wes) Scott; his sisters Sandy Brownlee and Sylvia (Bill) Hannon, with his brother Herbert Smith. Archie leaves a legacy of nine grandchildren, seven great-grands, along with numerous extended family and friends through the years. His final wishes were to be cremated, which his family is honoring. A Celebration of Life is set for Saturday, February 19th at Trinity Funeral Services' McHenry location. A chapel service will begin at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Dewayne Watson officiating, with a time of visitation and fellowship to follow. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Smith family in their time of need and asks everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers through this difficult time.
