Obituary

Elvis Wayne "Munch" Woodard, age 49, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2026, at Singing River Hospital in Gulfport, Mississippi. Born on September 30, 1976, in Mississippi, Elvis was the son of John Wayne and Delores Frierson Woodard.

To most everyone who knew him, though, he was simply “Munch.” And if you knew Munch, you knew there was nobody quite like him. Munch was a hard-working, good-hearted Southern man who believed in putting in an honest day’s work and making the most of the time he had with the people he loved.

Munch worked as a septic tank technician, and he took pride in working hard. For him, life was pretty simple: go to work, enjoy some good music, spend time with family, and head to the dirt track races whenever he could. He loved dirt track racing and would gladly travel to watch the cars run. The races were more than just something he enjoyed—they were one of the things that made Munch happiest.

When he wasn't working or watching cars tear around the dirt track, Munch loved camping, especially at Roosevelt State Park, which was his favorite place to set up camp. Although he may not have considered himself a true outdoorsman, Munch certainly knew how to enjoy a good camping trip. He also had a creative side and was known for making all sorts of random and interesting things around the house. If Munch could build it, fix it, or come up with something nobody else had thought of, chances were he was going to give it a try.

Music was another love of his—and Munch preferred his music the way he preferred his personality: loud and unapologetically himself. He had a wonderful sense of humor and could make people laugh without even trying. Unique, funny, and always able to strike up a conversation, Munch never met a stranger. He could make friends just about anywhere he went.

Above all else, Munch was a family man. His sons meant the world to him, and he cherished every opportunity to spend time with them and the rest of his family. He loved children, loved being around his family, and was always willing to lend a hand to someone who needed it. His big heart and willingness to help others were just part of what made Munch so special.

Munch was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Delores Woodard.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his spouse, Sandy Woodard; his sons, Shane Woodard and Logan (Jessica) Woodard; his father, John Wayne Woodard; his brothers, Wesley Woodard and Toby Woodard; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other beloved family members and friends.

Munch lived life in his own unique way, worked hard, loved hard, laughed often, and never needed to be anybody but himself. His family and friends will remember his humor, his big heart, his love for racing and music, and that one-of-a-kind personality that could never be replaced.

Though he is no longer here to tell a story, turn up the music, make something out of nothing, or cheer on a dirt track car, the memories Munch made will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him.

Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Woodard family during this difficult time and asks that you remember them in your thoughts and prayers in the days ahead.
