She was born February 19, 1938 at the old Lumberton hospital, the oldest of nine children to Robert Edward "Rob" and Annie Clyde (Lazenby) Lee. Elizabeth grew up in and around Lumberton on the family farm, which included a dairy. As you might imagine, she grew up working in the garden, on the farm PICKING COTTEN, and in the dairy as well. She attended Lumberton schools thru the eighth grade and got married at 16 to James "Red" Owen. The young couple made their home in the Leetown community and raised their family there as well. Elizabeth was a stay at home mother and grandmother, taking care of all her babies through the years. She did work at Movie Star for a little while, but as soon as she could, she went back home to her kids and family. She is remembered as hard working but loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed crocheting, making bed spreads and baby blankets for no telling how many through the years. Elizabeth was a Christian by faith, attending and serving at White Sand Apostolic Faith Church for over 30 years where she loved to sing and praise the Lord. A down-home country lady at heart, she will be forever loved and missed by all whose life she touched. She was preceded her parents, and her loving husband of over 37 years, Red Owen; her son Mike Owen, and three of her grandchildren Bethany Herrin, Kevin Herrin, and Brielle Dalton; sisters Frances Lee and Hazel Lyons, and her brothers Bobby and Fred Lee. Left to cherish her memories are: her children, daughters Brenda Smith, Glenda (Mitchell) Herrin, and Debbie Slade, and her son Grady Owen, all of Lumberton; her siblings: brothers Edward Lee of Lumberton and Gene (Gwen) Lee of Sherman, TX, with sisters Louise Sullivan and Helen Smith, also of Lumberton. Elizabeth leaves a legacy of fifteen grandchildren, thirty-four great-grands, and ten great-great-grands. along with numerous neices, nephews, extended family and friends through the years.
