Eldon Reid, 58 of the Carnes community, passed away August 21st at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Dale was the eighth of nine children to William Ezra and Obelia (Pickett) Reid. He was born December 18, 1962 in Lumberton and grew up in the Pistol Ridge community. From the time he could get outside on his own, Dale has loved fishing, hunting, motorcycles and fast cars. He attended South Forrest Attendance Center before going to work on a hog farm and later at Movie Star. Those were just until he got old enough to get his drivers license so he could drive trucks. Dale was at home behind the wheel, hauling most everything in his time on the road. From cows to containers, including logs, poles and more, if it needed to go somewhere, he has hauled it. He was "fixed up" with Debbie by her sister, who asked her to bring a hamburger to someone who was hungry. That began a relationship that has lasted for more than thirty years. They made their home in Lumberton early on but moved to Pistol Ridge, which is where they spent their lives together. Dale is lovingly remembered as a "little tyrant" as a kid. He is said to have tormented his younger sister, just to keep her from following him around. He blamed her for many years for breaking his finger, when it was actually him that actually did it while he was trying to hit her! But no matter what, Dale was always there for his siblings, especially his little sister. He was a loving husband that worked hard and provided for his family. Debbie lovingly got up every day to make his lunch, which was 2 hamburgers with hot potato chips and a thermos full of sweet tea for many years. Dale was full of pure mud really, the type that loved to crack jokes and tell tall tales. He enjoyed his Harley and rode it as often as he could. He will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded by his parents, William & Obelia Reid and brothers Billy, Roy and Ed Reid; a niece Kimberly Reid, a daughter-in-law Codie Thompson and two brothers-in-law, Clayton Standford and Danny Byrd. Left to remember the laughs and stories are: his loving wife Debbie; two children, Jody Thompson of Richton and Billy Dale Reid of Lumberton; his siblings: sisters Inell Reid, Sara Simmons and Myrtis (James) Smith, all of Pistol Ridge, with his brother Joe (Sandra) Reid of Lumberton. Dale leaves his only grandchild, Greenleigh Reid, along with numerous neices, nephews, extended family and friends. His final wishes were to be cremated, which his family is honoring. A memorial service is being planned for this coming weekend, with details to follow. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Reid family in their time of need, asking everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
