Eduardo Castaneda Pena, affectionately known as "Moyo," passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026, in Gulfport, Mississippi. Born on November 17, 1968, in Puerto Barrios, Guatemala, Eduardo lived a life marked by kindness, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved.
Eduardo was a beloved and well-known mechanic, whose skills and warm spirit made him a cherished figure in his community. Anyone who knew him sought his help and guidance, as he was always willing to offer support and a smile, no matter the circumstances. Despite facing his own challenges, Eduardo maintained a joyful demeanor, frequently lifting the spirits of those around him with his humor and lightheartedness.
Fishing was Eduardo's favorite pastime, and many who had the pleasure of spending time with him remember fondly the fishing and camping trips shared. These moments, filled with laughter and camaraderie, stand as some of his most treasured memories. His ability to create joy and laughter, even in difficult times, made him a truly lovable soul.
Eduardo took immense pride in seeing his children grow into remarkable adults, a testament to the love and guidance he provided as a father. His family was his greatest accomplishment and source of happiness.
He is survived by his devoted spouse, Juana Alicia Hernandez Garcia, who stood by him through the highs and lows of life. His children, Stefany Marilu Castaneda-Hernandez, Wendy Isabel Castaneda-Hernandez, Kimberly Jannett Castaneda-Hernandez, Luis Eduardo Castaneda-Hernandez, and Edgar Anibal Garcia, carry forward his legacy of strength and love. Eduardo's granddaughter, Eylin Stefany Morales Castaneda, also survives him, embodying the continuation of his family’s bonds.
His father, Raul Castaneda Hichos, remains a steadfast presence, alongside his brothers Edwin Wilfredo Castaneda Pena, Edgar Ronaldo Castaneda Pena, Mario Raul Castaneda Pena, and Nelson Yovani Castaneda Pena. Family gatherings were enriched by the presence of his cousin, Elmer Benjamin Garcia Pena, and his cousin's wife, Kathy Casasola. A wide circle of friends, spanning North and South Carolina as well as Gulfport, Mississippi, maintained close ties with Eduardo, sharing countless moments of friendship and support.
Eduardo is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Maria Isabel Pena; his brother-in-law, Jose Vicente Hernandez Garcia; and his dear friend, Erwin Rodas, known affectionately as "Canche."
Eduardo Castaneda Pena’s life was a testament to warmth, perseverance, and generosity. He touched many hearts and leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered with love and respect. His smile, jokes, and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed but forever cherished by all fortunate enough to have known him.
