Douglas Macarthur Phelps, Jr.

Douglas Macarthur Phelps, Jr., 52 of Wiggins, passed away late Wednesday evening. He was born September 15, 1967 in New Orleans, the second of four children to Douglas M. Sr. and Gwendolyn A. (Moran) Phelps. Known by the family as "Dougie", he grew up in and around Bogalusa, LA, enjoying hanging out with his friends, fishing and collecting comic books. He got his first job at 16, working at a local gas station. Later the family moved to Lucedale and he went to work at Avondale as an apprentice electrician and worked his way up and making a career as an marine electrician. He met Robin while in Lucedale and they were married April 12, 1991. They made their home in Lucedale before moving to Wiggins in 2009. Dougie loved being with his family and friends. Get-togethers, cookouts and relaxing together was his joy in life. One of his favorite things was visiting the casinos. A loving brother, husband, father and friend, Dougie will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded by: his father Doug Sr.; aunts & uncles: John Phelps, Beatrice Phelps, Tommy Moran, Carol Moran, Leonard Phelps and EsJay Phelps. Left to cherish his memories are: his wife Robin (McGahey) Phelps; daughters Megan (Keith) Branch, Samantha and Victoria Randall, Rachel and Jessica (Daniel) Phelps, with sons Doug (Brittney) Phelps, III, and Jonathan Phelps; his mother Gwendolyn Phelps; sisters Michelle (Micki) MacCallum and Crystal (Ronnie) Pipkins, and a brother Donald (Toni) Damrill. He leaves a legacy of 20 grandchildren, along with numerous extended family, friends and co-workers over the years. Dougie's wishes were to be cremated, which his family is honoring. A Celebration of Life will be set at a later date.
