Douglas Wayne Lizana

April 17, 1947 — December 5, 2020

Saucier, MS

Douglas Wayne Lizana, 73 of Saucier, went to be with his Lord Saturday, Dec. 5th from his home. Before we get into telling his story, Doug's personal request was that in lieu of flowers, he would rather his family, friends and others make a donation to the American Cancer Society, because that's the kind of guy he was. Since we have that out of the way, let's tell you more about him. Doug was born April 17, 1947 in St. Andrews, FL, while his father served in the USAF. He was one of twelve children and oldest son of Hayes Joseph and Christine Elizabeth (Berry) Lizana.  He grew up in the North Delisle area of Harrison county and loved to be outdoors from an early age. Fishing, hunting, camping and swimming were just some of the things he enjoyed whenever possible. Doug also had a fondness for music and dancing. He played the trumpet and saxophone while in school, and did his best to teach his brothers and sister how to dance. He dropped out of school to work and help the family in the 11th grade when his father was ill, but did complete his GED and joined the USAF himself. DOug served honorably as a member of the Field Maintenance Squadron 5200, stationed at Clark AFB in the Philippines during Vietnam. After his discharge, he promptly returned home to South MS and went to work. Doug also went to school at USM Gulf Park and attended trade school, opting for a career in welding. He worked all over for many years as a welder, until he decided to focus on mechanics. He was always tinkering and fixing cars and trucks, so doing mechanic worked seemed obvious. Plus, he could also focus on his racing habit as well. Doug is remembered as a humble and giving man that would go out of his way to help you. He was the easy-going type for the most part and loved his family and animals. As one of the older siblings, he is remembered as "the rock" of the group, never straying far or for too long away from home, and always there when you needed him. He did have stories to tell on all his siblings, and boy did he like to share them! A loving brother, father, grandfather and trusted friend to many, he will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded by his parents, Hayes & Christine Lizana; brothers Richard and Leonard Lizana; his granddaughter Amber Nicole Lizana; a nephew Jeff Martin and a great-nephew, Little Lance Norton. Left to cherish the many fond memories are: his wife and life-companion for over 34 years, Deborah; daughters Michelle (Brock) Barnes of Gulfport, Mary Beth (Edward) Ard of Lagrange, GA and Theresa (Todd) Bowen of AL; his sisters, Linda Norton of Pulaski, TN, Shirley McGee of Dayton, TN, Diane (Joe) Trejo of Biloxi, Karen Lee of Gulfport, Tina (David) Dauro of Leesburg, GA and Henrietta (Bay) Ladner, also of Gulfport; brothers Harold "Peanut" Lizana of Thibodaux, LA, David (Jan) Lizana of Carriere and Glen Lizana of Biloxi. Doug leaves a legacy of seven grandchildren: Zarah Ard, Christian and Sybil Bowen, Brandon and Matthew Boothe, Ciera Agee and Amy Garrett, with three great-grands, Kairi, Kaiden and Phoenix Boothe, along with numerous extended family, friends and neighbors through the years. Due to the covid-19 situation, the family has set everything graveside for Thursday morning, Dec. 10, 2020 at Wolf River Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11:00, with the funeral service set for 11:30. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Lizana family in their time of need and asks everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers over this difficult time.
