Dorothy Louise Mcelveen

Dorothy Cummings McElveen, 85,  of McComb, MS,  died on March 23, 2023,  at Aston Court in McComb.  Mrs. McElveen was born September 10, 1937,  in Liberty,  MS., the daughter of William A. Cummings and Thelma Jones Collier. Dorothy was a devoted wife to her husband, Herbert Lane McElveen, for over sixty years as well as a loving and caring mother to her three children. Dorothy was a faithful member of South McComb Baptist Church. She was a homemaker who took pride in keeping everything clean and in an orderly fashion. Spring was her favorite season, as Dorothy anticipated the arrival of the first hummingbirds, as she was an avid fan of them. Dorothy had a real passion for flowers and spent much of her free time caring for them. In her younger days, Dorothy enjoyed relaxing on her raft while floating on the Bogue Chitto River along with swimming and sunbathing. Her greatest joy in life was raising her children and spending time with them and her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Mrs. McElveen is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, W.A. (Bill) Cummings; and her oldest son, Herbert "Herbie Lane" McElveen. She is survived by her children Dottie McElveen Etheridge and Charles McElveen of McComb, MS.; two grandchildren, Lane Harrington McElveen of Atlanta, GA, and Wesley Hosch McElveen of Iron City, TN.; two sisters, Irene (Morris) Russell of Jackson, LA, and Bonnie (Johnny) Cooksey of McComb, MS; two sisters-in-law, Lynda McElveen Glass of Magnolia, MS. and Virginia Wellborn of Partlett, TN.; and a brother-in-law, George T. Glass. Dorothy leaves a legacy of numerous nieces and nephews as well as extended family and friends. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to McComb Hospice, Aston Court, and their staff, along with three wonderful caregivers. A memorial graveside service for family and friends will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at 5:00 pm at East Fork Cemetery with Dr. David Millican officiating. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the McElveen family during this time and would ask that you remember them in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
