Dorothy Agnes Ladner passed away peacefully Saturday, May 16, 2026 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was just seven months away from turning 100, but the Lord insisted she “Come on Home”. Dorothy was the daughter and one of twelve children to James Lott and Ida (Hoda) Cuevas, Sr. She was born and raised in the Catahoula Community where she attended school and played basketball. The last remaining of the 12 children, Dorothy was known and loved by her family as a sister, aunt, mother, and especially Mawmaw. After being widowed at the age of 35, her four children were her whole life. Dorothy did what she had to do to make ends meet, babysitting until she was hired by the Hancock County School System as a cook in the cafeteria. Her passion was always cooking and Dorothy worked there feeding children until she retired. She was the type of lady who always saw the good in everyone. An independent, hardworking, beloved soul to those in the community and beyond, Dorothy touched many more lives in her time than could ever be counted. She was truly loved by everyone who knew her, and will be dearly missed and forever remembered for her loving and giving heart. Dorothy was preceded by her parents, James and Ida Cuevas, Sr.; her husband Cortez Ladner; and her siblings: twins that were stillborn: sisters Gladys Cuevas, Aurellia Davis, Ida Nobles, and Lois Wall, with brothers: Tunas, Rance, James Jr., Aristilde, and Alton Cuevas. Left to cherish her memories are her four children: daughters Suzette (Greg) Shaw and Velma (Butch) Ladner, with sons Cortez (Wanda) Ladner and Ronald (Rose) Ladner, her bonus sister, Ollie (Georgie) Shiyou, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Dorothy leaves a long legacy of twelve grandchildren, thirty-three great-grands, and five great-great grands, along with countless children that she both babysat and fed at the school, as well as her home, over the years. The family has set funeral services for Friday, May 22, 2026 at St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 10 AM, followed by the funeral mass at 12 noon. Afterward, Dorothy will be laid to rest beside her late husband in St. Joseph Cemetery at Rotten Bayou. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Ladner family in their time of need and asks everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
