Doris Lynn (Wangerin) Benton

October 28, 1962 — June 17, 2021

Saucier

Doris Lynn Benton, 58 of Saucier, passed away unexpectedly June 17th at her home. Doris was born October 28, 1962 in Gulfport, MS to Carroll and Judy (Hawkins) Wangerin. She was preceeded in death by her parents, and recently by her beloved husband and soul-mate, Gerald Benton. Left to cherish her memories are: her daughter Tracy (Aaron) Plaisance of McHenry and sons Jeremy (Aimee) Remillard of Ocean Springs, with Gerald, II and Joshua Benton (Kalyn Chamness), both of Saucier; her two brothers, Paul Wangerin of Jackson and Philip Wangerin of Perkinston; her beloved niece Madeline; and her four-pawed kids that she loved dearly, her Lab ‘Rosie’ and a Doberman-mix grandpup, ‘Daisy’. Doris leaves a legacy of four grandchildren: Timothy (Kathrina) Brosamle, A.J. Plaisance, and Holden & Mia Remillard, with numerous additional extended family and friends. Doris was the oldest of three and the “ring leader” growing up as they say. She was active and outgoing, playing softball, gardening and enjoying time outdoors with family and friends. Doris attended Harrison County schools, graduating from Harrison Central with the Class of 1980. At 17, her boyfriend at the time was racing a guy named Gerald Benton. Gerald won that race and eventually they got together, with him bragging for years that he won Doris in it. She held onto the gardening hobby throughout her life and continued to grow flowers in her yard. She still loved the outdoors, enjoying camping, 4- wheelers, and just about everything Gerald was doing. Doris became an LPN and worked as a dialysis tech with Dr. Lanier for over 20 years. She was also a personal caregiver and even found time to teach at Blue Cliff College. Doris was known as a God-fearing woman and attended Unity Baptist Church in McHenry. She was organized and would do anything for anyone, except take any crap.  Doris had one of the most caring hearts, always striving to meet the needs of others before her own. She loved Gerald from the time they met, caring for and nursing him back from the impossible. A loving sister, wife and mother who always told it just like it was, Doris will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. A Visitation will be held at Trinity Funeral Services on Monday, June 21st beginning at 1 PM, with a chapel service starting at 3. Interment will follow, weather permitting, at Saucier Community Cemetery. Trinity Funereal Services is honored to assist the Benton family during this difficult time and asks that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
