Ms. Doris T. Olson, 88 of Waveland, passed away at her home in Waveland Friday morning. Doris was born Dec. 17, 1931 in New Orleans, the oldest of 4 and daughter of Claude & Naomi (Morvant) Trahan. She grew up in New Orleans and from a young age, she had a caring heart. Doris graduated from the Charity Hospital School of Nursing in 1952 and obtained her certification as a registered nurse. Nursing was her true calling, and she spent almost 50 years doing just that for the State of Louisiana. She married Emile Olson and they made their home in Lacombe, LA., raising seven children of their own. Affectionately known to most as "Momma O", she is remembered as "the most caring, good-hearted person ever", but one that could also be a bit of a "firecracker" as well. She rarely got upset, but when she did, Doris liked to build her a fire and dispose of a few things. On one of those occasions, she accidentally took out the shed as well, but nobody dared to fuss about it! Both she and her husband loved to cook and were excellent at it. Among her specialties were stuffed artichokes that were simply the best you could find anywhere. A loving sister, mother and grandmother, she will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all whose life she touched. Doris was preceded by her parents, Claude & Naomi Trahan, all three of her siblings, Melvin O'Quain, Vivian Reich, and Claude Trahan, Jr, her husband Emile, and her daughter, Donna Schiller. Left to cherish her memories are: her children, Inger Olson, Karl Olson, and Eric (Stacey) Olson, all of Waveland, Axel (Cindy) Olson of Slidell, David (Tina) Olson of Mandeville, and Olaf (Wanda) Olson of Lacombe; her son-in-law Hank Schiller of Riverside, CA, along with a legacy of 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grands, with untold numbers of patients, friends and neighbors across the years. Memorial services are set for Saturday, February 1st at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lacombe. Visitation will begin at 9 AM with the funeral mass beginning at 11 AM. Following the service, the family asks everyone to join them for a celebration of her life at the VFW Hall on Main St. in Lacombe until 4 PM. The family also wishes to express sincere and heartfelt thanks to Encompass Health of MS, for their caring, compassionate care for Ms. Doris. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Olson family and asks everyone to please keep them in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
