Doric Wilkienson, 84 of Gulfport, stepped into eternity Friday, Sept. 3, 2021 at Singing River Hospital in Gulfport. He joins his wife of sixty-four years, Fumie, who had passed away just four days prior. Doric was one of three children to Horace and Dealie (Sykes) Wilkienson, born November 26, 1936 in Sharkey county, MS. He grew up in the Mississippi Delta where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, hanging out with his friends and racing cars. His dream was to be a NASCAR driver, but he was a true patriot as well, choosing a career in the United States Air Force instead. Doric joined the USAF in September 1954 and served over twenty years before retiring. While serving a tour in Japan in 1957, he saw this young lady working at a cafe. For Doric, it was love at first sight, even telling his friend that he was going to marry that girl one day. She finally looked his way and yes, they did get married. Over his career in the military, they lived in several cities and places around the world. From Hawaii, Alaska and more, Doric and Fumie grew so close that they could not function without one another. After retirement, they planted their feet in New Orleans, moving to Slidell eventually, with plans to live out life there. Hurricane Katrina changed those plans by destroying their home. A few years later they found a home in Gulfport and had been there since. In his spare time, Doric collected coins, owned his own business and still loved to travel. His wife and family were his world and he loved his kids more than anything. He will be forever missed by all whose life he touched. Doric was preceded by his parents, Horace and Dealie Wilkienson, along with both sisters, Hazel Riels and Rachel Walker, and his wife whom he adored, Fumie. Left to cherish his memories are their children, daughters Robbie Wichterich and Naomi Roussell, and sons David and Ricky (Jan) Wilkienson. Doric leaves a legacy of eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grands, and a host of extended family and friends, literally around the world. His final wishes were to be cremated and joined with his wife Fumie, which the family is honoring. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Wilkienson family in such a difficult time, asking everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers in the days ahead.
