Donald Gene Martin

July 16, 1959 — March 15, 2022

Lumberton

Donald Gene "Slow Poke" Martin, 62 of the Carnes community, passed away March 15, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 16, 1959, the youngest of five children to Charles Basil and Vondell (Landrum) Martin. Donnie grew up in Lumberton and enjoyed riding horses and fishing. According to some of the stories he would tell, he may or may not have been a handful along the way as well. He attended Lumberton schools until he decided to go to work, and went to hauling watermelons with his uncle. Eventually Donnie obtained his CDL and hauled logs for over thirty-seven years. He was widely known by his cb handle, "Slow Poke", which by the way, wasn't indicative of his driving. He is remembered as a loving husband and family man that he loved to laugh. Donnie would always crack a joke, no matter what he was going through. He loved his animals, especially his chihuahua-Corgi mix, "Cheesburger", along with all the other four-pawed kids they had. Affectionately known as "Pop", Donnie loved all of his girls, and was regarded as the best Pop anyone could ask for. He will be sadly missed by all whose life he touched. He was preceded by his parents, C.B. and Vondell Martin. Left to cherish his memories are: his loving wife of forty-two years, Cindy; their daughters, Tiffany Clark (Odis Saucier), and Tabatha (Richard) Grantham, both of Wiggins; his brothers, David (Deedee) Martin of Carnes, Lee Martin of Purvis, Lynn (Susan) Martin, also of Carnes, and his sister Becky (Randy) Welsh, also of Wiggins. Donnie leaves a legacy of three granddaughters, Madeline and Madison Bradford of Carnes, and Stacey Saucier of Wiggins, along with numerous extended family and friends. Services will be held Friday, March 18th at Trinity Funeral Services in Lumberton. Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM, followed by the funeral service at 12:00 PM. Afterward, Donnie will be laid to rest in the Landrum Cemetery. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Martin family in their time of need, and asks everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
