Mr. Donald Gene Gartman, 68 of Perkinston, passed away Tuesday morning at Memorial Hospital of Gulfport. He was born October 26, 1950, the 2nd of 5 children to Donald Odell and Mary Lou (Ladnier) Gartman. Donnie grew up in the Success community, and as most Southern boys, enjoyed most things outdoors, with hunting, fishing, and sports among his favorites. He was a member of the Harrison Central High School Class of 1968, and took some classes at MGCCC afterward. In 1970, Donnie joined the MS Army National Guard where he spent the next 33 years, retiring as Sergeant First Class in 2003. He then spent an additional 10 years working at CRTC in Gulfport. When he wasn't working, Donnie found time to coach his kids and others in the Saucier Recreation Leagues. He also served as a football official for pee-wee, high school, and even JUCO games. Donnie was a dedicated family man who stayed busy and worked hard all his life. A loyal friend and all-around good guy, he will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded by his parents, Donald & Mary Lou Gartman. Left to cherish his memories are: his loving wife of 46 years, Margo (Cuevas) Gartman; their children: daughters Amanda (Shawn) Andrews of McHenry and Kaela (Chris) Farno of San Diego, CA, and their son, Chris (Emily) Gartman of Picayune; his siblings: sisters Sylvia (Jack) Bradley and Janet (Doug) Hester, and brothers Michael (Joyce) Gartman & Jeffery (Melissa) Gartman; one grandson, Gavin Andrews, along with several extended family members, and literally battalions of friends, co-workers, and athletes thru the years. The family will receive friends for visitation Thursday, January 17th from 8:00 AM until 10:00 AM at Trinity Funeral Services in McHenry, with interment at Biloxi National Cemetery scheduled for 11:00 AM. Trinity is honored to serve the Gartman family, and asks that you keep them covered in prayer over the coming days.
