Donald Ray Fruge, 70 of Kiln, passed away Tuesday evening, March 9th at Boyington Health & Rehab Center in Gulfport. Donald was the fifth of six children, born June 19, 1950 in Gulfport to Pete Dieudonne and Evelyn (Parker) Fruge. He grew up in downtown Gulfport where he enjoyed whatever sport was in season at the time, be it football, baseball or basketball. When there wasn't any ball sport to play, Donald liked to hunt and fish. His family was very active at the Free Church of God in Gulfport and the kids were always involved there as well, so his early years were filled with activities. After high school, Donald was drafted into the US Army in the late 60's. Once his military endeavors were done, Donald went to work in parts at the Ford dealership in Gulfport. He worked for several dealers over the years, before transitioning to Jerry's lawnmower in Long Beach, taking care of parts there as well. The man knew his parts, spending his career handling them from cars and trucks to small engines and mowers. He is remembered as a strong-willed, independent type of guy. He was, as they say, on his own path in life, not bothering anyone and not wanting to be bothered either. Donald also enjoyed cooking, but that was likely because he absolutely loved to eat. He liked talking and visiting with people and in most every conversation, he was going to ask what you had eaten. A caring family man that loved kids, especially his grandkids, Donald will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all whose life he touched. He was preceded by his parents, Pete & Evelyn Fruge, and sisters Julie Enroth and Dianne Allen. Left to cherish his memories are: his only son, Donnie Fruge, Jr. of Gulfport, with his sisters Rose Russell and Patsy (Gary) Joffrion, and brother Pete (Faye) Fruge, Jr., all of Gulfport. He leaves a legacy of four grandchildren, Benjamin, Brice, Hailey and Lee, numerous nieces, nephews and countless parts customers over the years. The family has set services for Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Gulfport Holiness Church on CC Camp Road. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Gulfport. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Fruge family in their time of need. Please keep them in your hearts and prayers during this difficult time.
