Mr. Dillus Smith passed away February 18, 2026 at the age of 76 still working up to the day he died. He was a lifelong resident of Poplarville, Ms living in the Steephollow community.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Jean Smith of 58 years, son Kenneth , daughter Janice Vaughan, parents Toxie and Lenora Smith , brothers Mitchell Smith, Tilous Smith and his sister Joane Austin. Left to cherish his memories are his grandson Gabrel Vaughan, son in law Rick Vaughan, brother Dealous Smith, sister Sylvia Nelson ,brother and sister in laws and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and his new found love Ruth.
Dillus was a loving father and husband who worked hard all his life up to the day he died to provide for his family whom he loved spending time with especially his grandson Gabrel. He was a pipe welder/fitter by trade traveling all over working in just about every state who was the hardest working man we ever knew who loved to get work 2 hours early. He also was a Mason and member of the Steephollow Masonic Lodge 639. He enjoyed having many different farm animals and loved to fish and always being on the go. Dillus was something special , someone different who was always full of laugher , had a a smile on his face and his favorite thing to do was to joke or pick , just to see who he could get stirred up. More than anything he was a giver , one who gave of his time and one who loved to give things whether it was a farm animal or whatever it was, it was his way of saying I love you. He will be deeply missed and cherished forever in our hearts , even his 4:30 am phone calls .
