Dianne Mitchell, 75 of Laurel, passed away March 11th, 2023 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 6, 1947 in Greenville, the second of seven and oldest girl to Lester Odell and Omie Irene (Kramer) Luke. Dianne grew up in the Greenville area on a small family farm, and was an outdoors country girl from the start. Her grandmother was Choctaw and Dianne learned a lot from her and her mother, especially how to cook. She developed a love of music and dancing, especially the twist, which she could keep up with the best of them. Dianne attended Greenville schools and decided to get married at a young age. In fact, she had to stretch her age just a bit, but after the "I dos" were done, her marriage to J. W. Mitchell lasted for sixty-two years! They made their home in Indianola to start, and moved around some while he worked, ran, and managed stores for Baber's Leasing in Laruel, Gulfport, Louisiana, and more. Dianne took care of their home and children, and also worked in food service, rising to become a manager. She is remembered as a loving and devoted wife and mother. One thing for sure, Dianne was like a mother hen to her kids, shielding and protecting them from anything and anyone, and that extended to her grandkids as well. They were her life and world, and nothing was going to mess with them while she was around. Dianne had a great sense of humor, loved to laugh, and if she could pull a good prank on you, that made her day. To relax, she would play games on her phone, or watch the ID channel. Her kids and family all say she was the best mom ever, and oh boy could she cook. They will all miss her cornbread, biscuits, and most of all, the deer steaks and gravy. Our hearts and tastebuds will all miss her dearly. Dianne was preceded by her parents, Lester and Omie Luke; her soul-mate of 62 years, James "J.W." Mitchell, and their daughter, Ann; her brothers Virgil, Cecil, and O'Neal Luke, with sisters Kay Spratlin and Barbara Crocker. Left to cherish her memories are: her daughters Pam (Christopher) Wilson and Dwanda Normand, both of Laurel, Teresa Cockrell of Indianola, and DeeDee (Harold) Davis of Ellisville; and her sister, Lynn (Robert) Odom of Laurel. Dianne leaves a legacy of fifteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grands, and three great-great grandchildren, along with a host of extended family and friends. Her final wishes were to be cremated, which the family has honored, with a celebration of her life to be held later. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Mitchell family in their time of need and asks everyone to remember them in your thoughts and prayers through the days ahead.
