Dewey Raymond Howard, 38, passed away August 08, 2022 at his home in Saucier, MS. He was born on March 27, 1984 in Gulfport, MS to parents Raymond and Harriett Inez Moore Howard. Dewey was born very early at just 26 weeks, and the family was told he was not likely to ever go home from the hospital. Needless to say, he was persistent and beat those odds by quite a bit! With all the issues surrounding his birth, Dewey’s journey was just beginning. He was discharged and went home to become a rambunctious, South MS boy, growing up in Bayside Park. He loved fishing and going to the movies, with Ninja Turtles and Power Rangers among his favorites. At 15, Dewey was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, and went to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis. Given just a 17% chance of survival, Dewey once again persevered. Through the next three years, he endured chemo, radiation, stem cell transplants, and more. He was told at that time that he would never be able to have any children of his own to boot. He was eventually released in February 2002, and went back to life as he wanted. Through the years, he participated in many tests and study’s to hopefully provide for better treatments for others who would follow. He lived with his sister Pat pretty much. In 2007, his daughter that he wasn’t supposed to have, arrived. Dewey did the best he could at raising her and teaching her all the things she needed for life. He continued to enjoy fishing, watching television, smoking his cigarettes and drinking 5 Hour Energy drinks. Yes, he was addicted to them, and would be very upset if they weren’t available. Dewey was a loving brother and father. He cared deeply for his family and those closest to him, and though he struggled with many things that only those closest to him could ever truly understand, the family is reassured in knowing that he is at peace today. Though life will never be the same for them, they will cherish the many happy memories until they see him in eternity. Dewey was preceded by his mother, Harriett Howard; his maternal grandparents, Dewey and Jessie Moore, paternal grandparents Scotty and Nellie Howard; uncles Bill Martin, Earl Holland, James and Jerry Spiers, and his aunt, Ann Martin. Left to cherish his memories are: his daughter, Tessa Howard; his father Raymond Howard (Bobbye Nance) of Gulfport; two sisters: Pat Howard (Todd Baron) and Stephanie Cook (Tony Cannon), both of Saucier, and his brothers Hunter Howard of Gulfport, and Neal (Holly) Coniff of Waupaca, WI; aunts and uncles: Rhonda (David) Moore, Donald (Christine) Howard, Nancy (Mark) Parker, Scotty (April) Howard, Deborah Langston, Vicky (Travis) Byrd, KK, Marie, Elizabeth, Jack (Peewee) Moore, Janet Holland, and last but not least, Rodney (Joan) Moore; one nephew, Alex, and nieces Destiny, McKenzy, and Kylee. Dewey also leaves a host of extended family and friends that will all miss him dearly. Visitation is set for Saturday morning, August 13th, beginning at 9:00 AM. A chapel service will begin at 11:00 AM, with interment to follow at Finley Cemetery in Gulfport, MS. In lieu of floral arrangements, the family asks that you might consider making a donation to help them offset funeral expenses.
