Dessa Chapman

Dessa Nell Chapman, of Laurel, MS., passed away on February 27, 2023, at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel. Dessa was born on December 24, 1967, in Laurel to her parents James and Norweida Chapman. Dessa graduated from RH Watkins High School, class of 1985.  Dessa worked for the local dispensary in Laurel up until she retired due to her health.  Once retired, she centered her life around her children, whom she loved dearly.  Dessa enjoyed going to concerts, cooking; (especially when she mastered new recipes), and online shopping for her great-nieces.  She loved keeping up with friends and family through social media, always posting daily inspirational quotes or rooting for her team, The Seattle Sea Hawks.  Not a day passed that Dessa didn't spend time on the phone with her mother, Norweida, who joined her in eternal rest, just three days later.  Dessa enjoyed studying scripture and leaning on the bible's promises for comfort as she battled with her health.  Dessa will be remembered as a quiet and kind-hearted soul who loved her family deeply.  Preceding her in death, are her father, James W Chapman; her maternal and paternal grandparents; one brother, James Chapman; and one nephew Darreon Chapman.  Dessa is survived by her children, daughters Tiffany and Ciara, and one son Christopher all of Laurel, MS.; her mother Norweida (Robbins) Chapman; sisters Marilyn (Garron) Thomas of Hattiesburg, Janice Barnes of Lancaster, PA., Cynthia (James) Warren of Bastrop, TX., and Carolyn Chapman of Laurel.  Dessa leaves a legacy of numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as special friends whom she loved.   A memorial service for Dessa will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023, beginning at 1:30 pm, at the Laurel Train Depot.
