Derik Keith Ladner

May 31, 1971 — February 5, 2022

Lizana, MS

Derik Keith ladner, 50 of the Lizana community, passed away at his home Saturday, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 31st, 1971 at Gulfport Memorial Hospital, the only child to Marlin Keith Ladner and Doris Ann Schivers. Derik grew up in Saucier and loved to hunt both deer and ducks, fish, and listen to his country and rock music. He would often sit in his car for hours, just listening to music and thinking about things. Outgoing and athletic, Derik played league and tournament softball, and also played on a co-ed team quite a bit. He attended Harrison Central High School, graduating with the Class of 1989 and went to work as a corrections officer at the Harrison County Jail. He stayed there for several years before moving to the same position with Hancock County. He enjoyed his job and had a strong work ethic, putting in sixty or more hours pretty much every week, to provide for his family. Derik worked and spent time with his family because that's what he enjoyed the most in life. He possessed a unique and outstanding sense of humor, with a special knack for bringing light to even the darkest of situations. Derik believed that laughter was truly the best medicine and did his best to give everyone a good dose along the way. He loved cooking on the grill, especially for family gatherings, and just sitting around watching sports and NASCAR races. In reality, Derik was a big 'ol momma's boy and wasn't ashamed of it. He loved her and cooking, but was particularly fond of her gumbo. No matter what was going on in his life, and Derik had his share of struggles over the years, he always had a smile on his face. A loving son, father, and trusted friend, Derik will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded by his maternal grandparents, Clyde Schivers and Marie Doughty, and his first wife, Angela Ladner Mitchell. Left to cherish the memories and laughter are: his only son, Darion Ladner and his loving mother, Doris Ann Schivers, both of Lizana; his father Marlin (Pat) Ladner of Saucier; his aunts, Dorothy (Robert) Anderson, Wanda (David) Gillis, and Myra Strickland, all of Perk, uncles Clyde (Cynthia) Schivers of Gulfport, Robert Dale (Sherry) Schivers of Greensburg, LA, Bryant Schivers (Laurie Navarro) of McLain, Clyde William Lawrence of FL, and Nickey (Mary) Ladner of Saucier, with his paternal grandparents, Edward and Vera Anderson, also of Perk. Derik also leaves his first best friend and cousin, Ronda (Scott) Clark of Wiggins, and his cousin/brother Lance Parker of Saucier, along with a whole lot of extended family and friends all over South MS. Services will be held Tuesday, February 8th at Trinity Funeral Services in McHenry. Visitation begins at 10:00 AM, followed by a chapel service at 11:00 with Pastor John Schivers officiating. Afterward Derik will be laid to rest in the Rouse Cemetery in Saucier. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Ladner family in their time of need and asks everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this trying time.
