David Arnold Nieman

April 1, 1948 — July 9, 2021

Saucier, MS

David Arnold Nieman, 73 of Saucier, passed away Friday at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport. David was the oldest of three children, born April 1, 1948 to A.D. and Emma Janette (Tullos) Nieman. He grew up between Gulfport and Long Beach in the 50s & 60s, enjoying the outdoors, going frog gigging and playing football. After graduating from Long Beach High School with the Class of 1966, David went to Mississippi College and Tulane University, earning his PhD in Psychology. He moved out to California where he opened a private practice for a while before going to work with the US Military. David worked at a Marine installation in the Mojave Dessert, helping soldiers and vets with PTSD and other issues for more than 18 years. In 2013, he returned to South MS where he loved living in the quiet, rural setting in Saucier, where the cattle were some of his best patients. He was a Christian by faith and licensed minister, attending and serving at Parkway Baptist Church locally. David taught Sunday School occasionally, led a home Bible Study on Tuesday evenings for a couple of years, and even brought a gospel message one Sunday morning. He collected firearms of all types as a hobby and enjoyed target shooting with his friends. David loved going out to eat, especially if it was to Texas Roadhouse or Ruth Chris for a good steak. Rarely caught without a smile on his face, David was a kind and very appreciative man to all those around him. He will be forever missed by all whose life he touched. He was preceded by his parents, A.D. and Janette Nieman. Left to cherish his memories are: his son Scott Nieman of Santa Anna, CA; his two siblings, Penny (Wayne) Gibson of Hattiesburg and Carl (Becky) Nieman of Crowley, TX; nieces and nephews: Amy (Charlie) Brown, Daniel Nieman, Michael (Josie) Gibson and Michelle (Kevin) Sanford, with his lifelong friend and companion, Linda Hickman of Saucier and untold numbers of friends and patients helped over the years. A chapel service is set for Monday, July 12th at 2:00 PM, at Trinity Funeral Services in McHenry, with his pastor, Dr. Argile Smith officiating. Afterward, David will be laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery in Gulfport. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Nieman family in their time of need and asks everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers over this difficult time.
