Daniel Dotson Garrett, aged 60, passed away peacefully at home on October 20, 2026. He was a long-time resident of Saucier, MS and was well known around the area as he never met a stranger. He came from a family of travelers who were always on the move, so he became really good at making friends. He came by his love of people honestly as his Grandma Broom and his Pop always made friends wherever they landed.
Danny, as he was known by his family and friends, had a love of the water from a young age. After serving in the United States Army, he made his way to the Gulf Coast in Biloxi for a bit then Gulfport and eventually he settled in Saucier. He loved to be on the beach or on a boat fishing and just enjoying the calmness of the water. Many places he lived growing up were always near a lake, a river or a body of water.
Anyone who knew Danny knew his biggest love was the Dallas Cowboys. You could find him anytime a Cowboys game was on watching it somewhere with his friends or every Thanksgiving with his family in Oklahoma and cheering them on when they made a touchdown and won or cussing when they lost. Scott and Danny loved the Cowboys and loved to rib their brother David because he was an avid Broncos fan.
Danny loved being out and about meeting new people and one day he met a local lady from Saucier named Brenda. She was one of the few people who could handle Danny. Brenda and Danny shared their lives together for over 18 years as partners and best friends. He was a father figure to her daughter Danita and “Poppy” to her grandkids. While their lives eventually transitioned into different chapters, they remained friends until the very end.
Even though he never had kids of his own, his nieces and nephews thought he was the funniest person they ever met. Every time the family was together, and Danny was telling a story or a joke you would have thought he was the kid whisperer. He always tried to make them laugh but he also taught each of them different life lessons that they carry with them to this day.
Danny is survived by his brothers David Garrett and wife Lavonda of Mannford, OK, and Scott Garrett and wife Kim of Katy, TX. He is also survived by nieces Ginger Taylor and husband Corey, April Osborne and husband Joey, Angela Birner and husband Rob, Heather Garrett and husband Jay and Alexis Townley and husband Noah. He is also survived by nephews Darren Garrett, Austan Garrett and Alex Garrett. He is also survived by great nieces Olivia, Riley, Trinity, Wynter, Selene, Grace, and Allyson. He is survived by great nephews Christian, Walker and Krew.
Danny is also survived by his long time partner and best friend Brenda Malley, “bonus” daughter Danita Garrison and husband David and his bonus grandchildren Westan, Christian and Shelby who called him “Poppy”. He also had a large group of extended family and friends.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents Diana and James Garrett, maternal grandparents Helen and Clarence Broom, Aunt and Uncle Marjorie and Vernon Miner, Great Aunt and Uncle Rick and Patty Stephan and great niece Jenna Martinez.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Mike Alexander for his many years of friendship and support to the family and most especially during this unexpected loss. His love and generosity is appreciated by the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to a charity of your choice or the local VFW 4526 in Gulfport MS.
