Cynthia Jenene (Shavers) Hickman

October 2, 1961 — March 6, 2024

Saucier

Cynthia J. Hickman, 62 of Saucier, passed away Wednesday morning, March 6th, 2024 at The Carpenter House in Gulfport. She was born October 02, 1961 in Wiggins, the fifth of seven children to Henry Payne and Shirley Yvonne (Redmond) Shavers. Cynthia, or Cindy as she is commonly known, grew up in Saucier where she was a bonafide country girl from the start. Seldom seen with shoes on, she could always be found outside somewhere, in the garden or roaming the woods. She attended Harrison County Schools, graduating with the Red Rebel Class of 1979. Cindy worked at Waffle House for a short time until she began her family. She married Melvin Hickman and together they had three daughters and made their home in the Saucier community. Cindy was a stay-at-home mom for the most part, before becoming a school bus driver for Harrison county schools. She drove for several years before opting to just be there for those who called her "Nanny". She is lovingly remembered as a fiesty, tell-it-like-it-is woman. She pulled no punches and you always knew right where you stood with Cindy. She was Nanny to more than her own, keeping many of the neighborhood kids as they grew up, so she had a hand in many lives over the years. Cindy enjoyed cooking and there was always something to eat on her table, and it was all homemade. From red beans to tomato gravy, hoe cakes, and whatever else you might want, Cindy could stir it up. Later in life, she discovered the games available on her phone, and could spend hours doing crossword puzzles, solitaire, or just browsing Tik-tok. For all that she was, she will be forever missed and loved by all whose life she touched. Cindy was preceded by her parents, Henry and Shirley Shavers; her loving husband Melvin Hickman; her brother Tim Shavers, and her granddaughter, Alyssa Reeder; her sister-in-law Christine Shavers. Left to cherish her memories are: her three daughters: Sherie (Brian) Bardwell of Wiggins, Ashley (Dwayne) Whiteman of Saucier, and Kristi (Alan) Reeder of Biloxi; her sister Shirley (Paul) Lord, and brothers Allan (Robin) Shavers, William (Denise) Shavers, Mike Shavers, and Steven (Patti) Shavers, with numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. Cindy leaves a legacy of four grandchildren: Randy (Amber) Bardwell, Jason Bardwell, Kayla Bardwell, and Colston Reeder, plus Baby Whiteman on the way, with one great-grand, Sebastian Bardwell, along with untold numbers of kids she has kept, driven, and fed over the years. Funeral services are set for Saturday, March 9th at Trinity Funeral Services' McHenry location. Visitation will begin at 8:30 AM, followed by a chapel service at 10:00 AM, with Rev. Eddie Bardwell and her son-in-law, Brian Bardwell, officiating. Afterward, Cindy will be laid to rest beside her late husband in the Barney Hickman Cemetery. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Hickman family in their time of need and asks that you remember them in your thoughts and prayers through the days ahead.
