Cynthia Ann Gilbert, 68, passed away on December 04, 2023 at Driftwood Nursing Center in Gulfport, MS. Cynthia was born on October 10, 1955 in Coleman, TX, the oldest of five children to Robert Franklin and Allie Louise (Wells) Lizana. Cynthia grew up in the Lizana community where she enjoyed the country life and playing softball. She was on the softball field as often as possible, both in school and out. Cynthia attended Harrison County schools, participating in softball and was also in the drama club. She graduated with the Red Rebel Class of 1974. She went to work at Pizza Hut where she worked her way up to manager. She later took the exam to work for the US Postal Service, and spent over 20 years there before her retirement. Outside work, she was still a busy lady. Cynthia enjoyed making crafts, wreaths, sewing clothes, and so much more. She enjoyed making floral arrangements, especially around All Saints Day for family and friends of hers. For her, Cynthia loved going to the casinos and play the slots. She was a member of most every players club available, and made her rounds regularly. She wanted her family and friends to come along, but it didn't bother her to go right by herself either. Cynthia was always taking her family and friends to eat with the points she had earned. She loved her family, especially those grandchildren of hers. They could do no wrong in her eyes and she always stood up for them in any situation. Cynthia loved to cook, and watch shows on cooking, like The Great British Baking Show and more. She will lovingly be remembered as a wonderful sister, mother, and grandmother. Selfless, loving, motivated, and hard-working were just a few of the many words used to describe her. For all that she was, Cynthia will be forever missed by all whose life she touched. She was preceded by her parents, Robert and Louise Lizana, her brother Randy Lizana, and her loving husband of more than 27 years, James Gilbert. Left to cherish her memories are: her daughters Christina Gilbert (Kelly Heaton) of Dauphin Island, and Jessica (Jason) Cobern of Gulfport; her brothers Rickey Lizana of Andalusia, AL and Clint (Tara) Lizana of the Lizana community, with her sister Dana (Steve) Strickland, also of Gulfport. Cynthia leaves a legacy of six grandchildren: Savannah Smith, Jamie Harriel, Chance Harriel, twins Kaylee and Braylee Cobern, and Brayson Cobern, along with numerous extended family and countless friends through the years. Funeral services have been set for Friday, Dec. 8th at Trinity Funeral Services in McHenry. Visitation will begin at 10 AM, followed by a chapel service at noon, with Bro. Brian Atwood officiating. Afterward, Cynthia will be laid to rest in the Wolfe River Cemetery. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Gilbert family in their time of need and asks that you remember them in your thoughts and prayers through the days ahead.
