“Life began in the sea; it’s the cradle of life” -Tennessee Williams
Cindy, 56, of Meridian, MS, passed away on March 28,2022 at University Medical Center in Jackson, MS, surrounded by love, after a long battle with complications after receiving a much prayed for organ transplant in October of 2021. Cindy was preceded in death by her father Ronald “RJ” Alawine, and mother, Virginia “Ginger” and Jean Alawine. She is survived by Scott Alexander, their children, Erika (Jay) Boykin and Dominic “Nick” (Morgan) Alexander; grandchildren Jaycob, Chance “Peanut”, Raylee and Ryleigh; brothers that she affectionately called “the boys” Sonny, Clay, and Scott; Margaret (Trent) workman and their children Garrett and Scarlet who will be born this week; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other close family and friends. Cindy attended West Lauderdale Attendance center in Collinsville, MS before going on to receive her degree from Meridian Community College, where she graduated with honors before pursuing her career in the medical field. She was a long time employee of Rush Hospital, where she worked in the Heart Station with her childhood best friend Deanie for many years before going on to deck handing on fishing boats in the Gulf of Mexico; creating her own soaps that she sold in flea markets and Renaissance fairs throughout Florida, and eventually moving back home to Meridian to be a grandmother. Cindy loved cross stitching, camping, gardening, cooking, nature, fishing, and so many other things. She especially loved the ocean and the beach, and would sing old Jimmy Buffett songs as we soaked up the sun, listened to the waves, and watched the gulls. She always said she had salt water in her soul. Cindy loved to take care of everyone around her, was loved by so many. There are too many stories that could be told by her brothers, cousins, and childhood friends of not only the shenanigans, but also how she always made those around her feel special, and never judged anyone. Cindy had an inner strength and fighting spirit until the end. She never gave up, never stopped fighting. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date, in lieu of flowers an account will be set up for donations for organ transplant recipients and their families. Contact her daughter Erika Boykin for more information.
