Mr. Coddie Shifflett, 81 of McHenry, passed away Saturday at the VA Hospital in Biloxi, after a battle with medical issues. He was born June 5, 1936 in Winchester, VA., the fourth of six children to Claude & Rhoda Shifflett. Coddie grew up on the family farm and apple orchard in Winchester, and was by all accounts, a rambunctious young man that loved boating and fishing. He volunteered for the military at a young age, and served honorably with the United States Marine Corps during Korea. Coddie was injured during his service, and honorably discharged. Following his military service, he decided to complete his high school diploma, and became an aspiring entrepreneur. He would delve into a few businesses before settling on commercial trucking. He founded and ran Shenandoah Air Freight for many years. After his retirement in 1997, he and Rheba acquired some property and settled in McHenry, where they enjoyed relaxing and visiting the coast. He is fondly remembered as a meticulous person who paid attention to detail and saw his projects through to completion. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Coddie was preceded by his parents, and his two brothers, Warren and Russell. Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Rheba; their children, Brian (April) Shifflett of WVA, Tonia (Dean) Purkowski of MD, and Sonia (Randy) Hose of VA; sisters Imajean Shifflett of WVA, Katherine (Scott) Snapp and Winnie Bayliss, both of VA; nine grandchildren, three great-grands, and several nieces and nephews, along with many friends and neighbors. Coddie's desire was to be cremated without fanfare, which his family is honoring, and he will be returned to VA for interment at a later date. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to assist the family with arrangements, and expressly honored to serve those who have served our country. Please keep Ms. Rheba and the entire family in your thoughts and prayers during this time.
