Charlie "Cajun" Dykes, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, at Slidell Memorial Hospital. Born on October 20, 1960, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Charlie was well-known for his big heart and his kind spirit that touched the lives of all who were fortunate to know him.
Throughout his life, Charlie donned many hats, working diligently as a volunteer firefighter, oilfield worker, operator with Cytec Industry and a sprinkler fitter with the local Union 669. His commitment to service reflected his generous nature and willingness to support his community.
Charlie had an unwavering passion for the simple joys in life. He loved the rich colors of sunsets, relished cookouts with family and friends, and embraced every opportunity to indulge in crawfish. An avid fisherman, he could often be found by the water, casting his line and sharing tales of his latest catch. Charlie's love for LSU football was legendary; he could engage anyone in spirited debate about the team he held so dear. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family.
Charlie is survived by Diedra Lyons, the love of his life, who shared many happy memories with him. He is also survived by his beloved children: Keith Dykes and his wife Mishell, along with their children, Carolina, Jacob, and Elizabeth; and Courtney Dykes Sperl, her husband Travis, and granddaughter Stella Mae. Charlie’s proud legacy continues through his siblings: Joseph Wayne Dykes and Debra, Teresa Ann Pimental and her children Jessica, Kelly, Channel and Malachi. His stepchildren: Shea, Shaina and her husband Jay, Dylan and Jennifer, along with his step-grandchildren, Easton and Harper.
Charlie was preceded in death by his father, Charles Bradley Dykes Sr., his mother, Joan Elizabeth Fjereide, his brother-in-law Arnold Pimental, his Uncle Jerry Lawler, his Aunt Patricia and uncle Jim Terrell and mother-in-law Dorothy Simpson.
His aunts and uncles, Kathy Lawler Merlette, Joseph Merlette, Debra Corey, and Michael Lawler, remember him fondly, as do countless friends and neighbors. Charlie had a remarkable ability to make people smile, and his passion for life left a lasting impression on those around him.
As we celebrate the life of Charlie "Cajun" Dykes, we remember a man whose heart was as vast as the bayou, whose laughter could elevate any gathering, and whose love for his family and friends created a beautiful tapestry of memories that will be cherished forever. He will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will forever resonate in every sunset, cookout, and passionate conversation about LSU football.
Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Dykes family and ask you keep them in your thoughts and prayers in the days to come.
