Charlie James Brownlee

April 3, 1938 — April 2, 2022

New Hope, MS

Charlie James Brownlee, 83 of New Hope, passed away April 02, 2022 at Columbus Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, MS. He was born at the family home in New Hope on April 03, 1938, the youngest of four children to Robert A. and Beatrice (Fondren) Brownlee. Known to most as Jimmy, he grew up in New Hope where his father ran Brownlee Small Engine Repair for many years. Jimmy learned from an early age all about small engines, taking over the business when his father passed away and continuing for several years before selling to his nephew. He attended New Hope school where he graduated in mid 1950s. Jimmy called New Hope home and spent his life there in the community. He is remembered as a loving, devoted father to his girls. Jimmy was from the old school where work and providing for the family was at the top of his list. He was either working, or at home with his family. A loving son, brother, father, and grandfather, he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Jimmy was preceded by his parents, Robert and Beatrice Brownlee, his wife and companion of many years, Martha Sides; his daughter Sherry Miller; his brother Bobby Brownlee, a sister Helen Barksdale, and one grandson, Brandon Mason. Left to cherish his memories are: daughters Robin (Chuck) Miller of Longview and Carla Ivey of New Hope, with one sister, Doris Sansing, also of New Hope. Jimmy leaves a long legacy of five grandchildren, seventeen great-grands, and five more great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous extended family, customers, and friends through the years. His final wishes were to be cremated, which his family is honoring. A memorial service is currently being planned, with details to come. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Brownlee family in their time of need, and asks everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
