Mr. Charles Weldo Denning, 82 of Big Level, passed away Saturday in Gulfport. Mr. Denning was born May 4, 1934 in Saucier, MS, to Joseph and Jeniva Denning. After high school, he enlisted in the US Navy, where he served honorably. He made 4 tours in Vietnam, and eventually retired from the US Navy as a Petty Officer 1st Class. He made his home in the Big Level community for many years, and enjoyed playing the steel guitar, as well as riding his Harley. Mr. Denning attended Sunflower Baptist Church, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Grace; 2 sons, David Denning, and Billy Denning, both of Big Level; 3 step children, Rev. Randy Cofield (Cindy) of Louisville, KY, Brian Cofield of Mobile, AL, and Gina Gollott of Woolmarket; 1 brother, Hollis Denning of Millstadt, IL; 2 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Merile Denning, his parents, Joseph and Jeniva Denning, and a step-son, Matthew Cofield. A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 4th, beginning at 9:30 AM, followed by a memorial service at 11, at Trinity Funeral Services' McHenry location.
