Obituary

Bobby Joe Peterson, 66, entered his heavenly home on April 15, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and friends at his home in Poplarville, Mississippi. Born on September 21, 1959, in Gulfport, Mississippi, Bobby lived a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lola Peterson; father, Andrew “Pete” Peterson; sister, Rebecca Bartlett; mother-in-law, Willa Jean Brinkman; father-in-law, Joe Brinkman; grandsons, Andrew and Joseph Peterson; sister-in-law, Debbie; and nephew, Teddy Madsen.

Bobby is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Johanna Peterson; his son, BJ (Jess) Peterson; and his daughter, Rebecca (Mark) Griffin. He was a proud grandfather to five granddaughters: Caitlin Sumrall, Brinkly Griffin, Lola Griffin, Presley Peterson, and Ryleigh Griffin. He is also survived by his sisters, Cynthia (Gary) Cuevas and Margaret Sumrall; his brothers, Jon Kimball Peterson, Andy Wayne (Cathy) Peterson, and Darrin (Leanne) Peterson; along with numerous nieces and nephews: Kurrie Peterson, Josh Peterson, Tawnya Bartlett, Jennifer (Henrik) Madsen, Jay (Kelly) Cuevas, Cherie (Travis) Barber, Wyatt (Hailey) Peterson, Anna Peterson, and Angel Cuevas; and great-nieces and nephews: Iben and Bailey Madsen, Bella and LJ Cuevas, Aiden Barber, Parker and Pace Peterson, and great great niece Chandler Madsen.

Known fondly as “the man, the myth, and the legend” of Pete’s Plumbing, Bobby dedicated many years of service to his work and community. He worked for Pete’s Plumbing, Pearl River County Hospital, the City of Poplarville, and retired from Pearl River Community College. He was also a devoted fan of Pearl River Community College Baseball, rarely missing an opportunity to support the team he loved.

Above all, Bobby was a man of deep and unwavering faith. He loved the Lord with all his heart and was a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church. His greatest treasures in life were his family—especially his beloved wife, his children, and his girls—whom he cherished beyond measure.

Bobby Joe Peterson will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and faith, with the assurance that he was covered by the blood of Jesus.

Services for Bobby Joe will be held at Malone Chapel on the campus of Pearl River Community College in Poplarville, MS, beginning with a visitation on Friday, April 17, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Funeral Services will begin at 10:00 am on Saturday and Bobby Joe will be directly interred at Family Haven Cemetery in Poplarville.  Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Peterson family during this time, and we ask that you remember Ms. Johanna and their family in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.
