Billy Leo Vance, a beloved figure who graced the shores of Gulfport, Mississippi, with his vibrant spirit, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026, at the age of 76. Born on August 4, 1949, Billy was not only a devoted father and cherished brother but also a friend to many who were lucky enough to know him.
With a personality reminiscent of a used car salesman, Billy had a unique charm that captivated those around him. His wit and warmth made every gathering an occasion to remember. As a father, he took immense pride in his children, and although he faced the heartache of losing his son, Derek Vance, he continued to shine brightly for his remaining family.
Billy's legacy lives on through his two adored grandchildren, Lillie and Selena Vance, who will carry forward his passion for life and love for family. They knew him as the doting grandfather who brought joy, laughter, and stories to their lives. His sister, Peggy and sister Mary along with his nieces Teresa Ball, Cynthia Henley, Misty Melton, Brandy Melton, and nephews Bryan Ball, Jimmy Melton, and Lee Melton, will also miss him dearly, as each one shared a special bond with him.
He had a penchant for adventure and loved being on the water, where he found peace and inspiration. His days as a shrimper reflect his dedication and hard work, along with his remarkable mechanical skills that endeared him to all who knew him as a talented mechanic. Billy also had an enduring fascination with collecting cars, boats, and trucks, realizing a passion that not only filled his garage but also facilitated many shared moments with friends and family.
Billy's final moments were spent peacefully, surrounded by the love of his sister, Peggy and best friend Mr. Jerry Wright, shows a testament to the deep bonds he fostered throughout his life. His very best friend, Jerry Wright, has lost a confidant and brother-in-arms, and while words may fail to capture the depth of their friendship, the memories of their time together will forever echo in the hearts of those left behind.
As we remember Billy Leo Vance, let us cherish the laughter, the love, and the unwavering commitment he showed to his family. His presence will be missed, a void in the fabric of life that nothing else can fill, yet his spirit will undoubtedly linger in the hearts of those who knew him.
A celebration of life will be at a later date.
