Billy Jack Jordan

November 20, 1954 — September 14, 2024

Hurley

Billy Jack Jordan passed away peacefully on September 14, 2024, in Hurley, MS. Born on November 20, 1954, in Poplarville, MS, Billy grew and established a life enriched with dedication, laughter, and hard work. Having spent his formative years in Gulfport, Billy graduated from Pascagoula High School and soon after, honorably committed himself to the 305th field hospital Unit as an Army Medic. During his eight years of devoted military service, he discovered his love for pediatric care while working at the Keesler Air Force Base. There, his gentle manner made him a favorite among children and babies. Billy applied his meticulous skills at Ingalls as a Master Ship Builder, where he acquired the nickname “Bush Hog.” He further extended his love for knowledge to others through his volunteer work as an adult literacy teacher. Living a life of faith, he served devoutly as a deacon for over three decades at Hurley Baptist Church where he also led as a Royal Ambassador Leader. His passion for creation led him to pursue carpentry after Ingalls, perfecting the art of woodworking. Whether it was piddling on the farm, planting flowers, or tending the garden for his wife, his hands were never idle. Billy's leisure hours were often filled with the classic allure of old Westerns, especially those starring his hero, John Wayne. He had hopes to make it to his “50” wedding anniversary to the love of his life, Edith, but alas celebrating with a vow renewal at 49 years will be just as memorable and beautiful. His cheerful spirit was manifest in his love for a good joke and he never missed an opportunity to 'pull your leg'. Among the many hearts he touched, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the lights of his life. He is preceded by his parents, John and Mildred Jordan, Sr.; three siblings, Paulette Bueley, John Jordan, Jr., and Dianne Thompson. Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Edith Jordan; three daughters Julie (Stephen) Bryan, April (Billy) Mears, Amber (Petey) Overstreet, sister, Ethel Andrew; Alex (Alexis) Felts, Marissa (Gavin) Felts, Dallas (Caitlyn) Bryan, Myca (Haley) Bryan, Shaun Grant, Kendell (Kaylee) Grant, Brenden Mears, Laighle Mears, Johnathon Overstreet, Bhrianna Overstreet, and Jacob Overstreet; great grandchildren, Kaydence, Lynnleigh, Ryder, Noah, Beau, Whitley, and Kendrick, along with two little sweets on the way; numerous nieces and nephews; brother-in-law and best friend, James Braden; cousin, James Jordan; and special friends, Walter Lee Roberts, Birde Johnson, and Sharon Byrd. A visitation will be held Friday, September 20, 2024, from 10AM-11AM followed by Military Honors and Funeral Servies at Hurley Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Alex, Shaun, Kendell, Johnathon, Jacob, Dallas, and Brenden, with honorary pall bearer, Petey.
