Billy Ray Bond, Sr.

June 3, 1946 — August 4, 2020

McHenry, MS

Billy Ray Bond, Sr., 74 of McHenry, passed away Wednesday afternoon in Breaux Bridge, LA. He was born June 3, 1946 in Wiggins, the third of nine children to O.C. and Olive Lurette (Alexander) Bond. He grew up in Stone county and was good with his hands from an early age, a trait which seemed to run in the family. Described as a "rambunctious" young man, Billy Ray loved tinkering with cars and bikes, enjoyed playing baseball and loved to fish. He and his siblings were always into something growing up. Billy Ray was the daring sort, jumping out of the barn with an umbrella as his parachute and other things boys do. He attended school in Wiggins and went to work as an iron worker afterward before going to work for Roy Anderson, Jr. After several years there, he and his brothers, better known as the "Bond Boys" teamed up to build houses and were well known for their quality workmanship. Billy Ray is remembered as a very hard working man that loved to run dogs deer hunting. If he were to shoot, you should go find the meat, as he rarely missed. A talented builder that taught his sons the trade as well, he was always laughing and smiling. A Christian by faith and former member at Ten Mile Baptist Church, he loved his family, especially his Uncle Bully. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Billy Ray was preceded by his parents, O.C. & Olive Bond, brothers Olan Ray, Charles and James Bond, and his dear uncle, Granville "Bully" Bond. Left to cherish his memories are: his sons, Billy Ray (Angela) Bond, Jr. of Perkinston, and Jamie (Sabrina) Dwyer of Breaux Bridge; sisters Karen McDaniel and Frances (Louis) Smith, both of Poplarville, with Joyce (Ray) Martin, Ann (Jimmy) Boyette and Glenda (Rodney) Warden, all of Wiggins. He leaves a legacy of seven grandchildren, three great-grands, and numerous extended family and friends through the years. Services have been set for Thursday, August 6th at North Spoon Baptist Church Tabernacle. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM, with the funeral service set for 2:00 PM. Afterward, he will be laid to rest in the Elias Lee Cemetery in the Magnolia community.
